Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

You don't know the artistry behind it or how it's going to be used in the story yet.

Of course not. This is all part of the traditional and highly ritualized Fannish Dance of Gloom and Despair accompanying any new concrete information about a Trek production which does not conform exactly to expectations that have been based on wishful thinking and little or no knowledge, often coupled with very personal but definitive interpretations of lines of dialogue, vague references and disputable statements presented now as "canon."

In many instances, the recital begins with a chant of "This info has me very worried."

I'll entertain almost any crazy fanwank idea if the writers can make it work within the confines of that universe. And that's been the problem with much of DSC and the season finale of the first year of PIC: ideas that just don't pay off. The animated series have been knocking it out of the park since Day One so we can only hope SNW learned from the producers' mistakes in the two previous live-action series and can make this one, well, not suck.

You know, "Faith of the Heart" should be the DSC theme song. The tone, the mood. I mean, just sing the lyrics in your head while contemplating the alternate title, Star Trek: Burnham's Journey.

Wasn't there some rumour that they were exploring a "Cpt. Kirk on the USS Republic" - show? Maybe they're just doing that - like with Pike: Make him a regular for a season, and then lobby to give him a full show.

But the way this stuff ends up working out for them, they won't have the Kirk show ready before SNW finishes its run and is at the dawn of the TOS Kirk-era.

SNW will be the Kirk show, Mount will stay as long as he likes, then Kirk becomes the lead character. Maybe Mount pops in for a guest shot now and again. Or at least that's how I'd do it.

Ok, honest question that I mean sincerely, how do they use Kirk in a way that a) doesn't suck and b) doesn't overshadow Pike?

That will be up to the writers and Mount to figure out. Besides, it is likely a year away. No sense in being wrapped up in it now.
With due respect, I don't find that a reassuring answer. In the past 4 years I have been told the writers suck repeatedly. Now I'm suppose to shift gears and be all for it with the only reassurance of "Wait and see?"

At this point, no. Trek has used up my good will.

Yeah, let's all unfurl our buttholes for a bit.
Since there is no acknowledgement of any fan frustration or the emotional response I see no reason to relax beyond trite cliches.
