Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

But somehow putting slanted pylons on it makes it acceptable for modern TV?
I don't like the slanted pylons, I wish they used John Eaves original version with the straight ones.

But the DSC design looks more believable to be refit into the movie version than the TOS version does.

I'm so fucking confused. Your statements simply don't make any sense. They could've adjusted the lighting of the model to make it look like the rest of Discovery.

But I don't dislike the design in context. I just don't think it looks good for a modern TV show.

Neither does the Discoprise. That's the point.

Complaining about and dismissing the original as a predicate to praising the hack job that STD did on "revising" it doesn't fly.

Think the original is too outdated? Fine.

Do better.

They didn't.

Yes, for purposes of the current day, the Abrams films did better by using the original design as inspiration and doing an overall artistic redesign that suited the aesthetics of those films. The STD folks dicked around with the original proportions a little and stuck some badly-scaled and ill-thought junk on the ship.

Meh, I've made my peace with this being the Enterprise for now - just not with all the eager apologists for a bad job. And it already looks better in that one close-up shot than it did on STD. That may be lighting and rendering, it may be more careful modeling. Can't tell how much improved it is, yet.

I don't think the Discovery version is awful, I think it ranks more as unimaginative and unnecessary because of it. I have the Eaglemoss version sitting on a shelf with the other versions, and you can just see what a copy-and-paste kitbash that it is.

If you're going to mess with something iconic, make sure you're actually giving the audience something "better".

What exactly makes this one difficult to take seriously, what about it would repel new fans, and why would your friends dismiss this?

I look at this, and it is just about a perfect way of mixing modern lighting and effects with the original design. Far more believable precursor to Kirk's Enterprise.
