- I hope the writers thought through the implications of giving Book's ship a spore drive. I'm hoping this is temporary and the drive is removed or destroyed by the end of the arc.
I'm quite ok with Book's ship getting a spore drive. Given that they mentioned that the next generation Spore Drive was already in R&D at the start of the season, I can see Spore Drive's getting mass produced and spread across StarFleet.

I was surprised at how compact the tech had become, it's literally not much larger than a mini oven.

I'm glad Tarka's not from the Mirror Universe. Enough of the Mirror Universe for a very long time, please. Just let him come from one of the 285,000 parallel universes we glimpsed in "Parallels(TNG)" and one we've never before been to.

Tarka’s from the Prime Universe. Supposedly he wants to go to an idealistic alternate universe his research discovered, but he’s native to the Prime Universe.

But ‪‪I agree, no need for more Mirror Universe in Disco/at all for a bit.

Re: Kovich’s comment about reassigning Stamets, how would that be possible? Discovery needs him to operate the spore drive.

I hope they don't mass produce the spore drive. They still need to figure out the pilot issue so it's possible they don't. It continues the overpowered tech problem (it basically takes the transporter problem and extends that problem to ships and space travel). Hard to tell good stories when you have tech that can do anything.

Right, they’ve mentioned in the last few episodes that Book and Stamets are still the only folks capabale of operating the Spore Drive at this time, so mass production seems relatively pointless until that can be sorted out (assuming it ever is).

Hopefully it never is. I like the spore drive conceptually but it is overpowered, as noted by @nic3636 , and they need to limit it through more than just who can pilot it.

Book isn’t Starfleet. He’s a civilian along for the ride who can take his leave whenever he wants. You can’t have him as the only option for the Spore Drive.

With the way Kwejian was destroyed in the next episode after the one where Book first uses the Spore Drive, ‪‪it feels like they’re trying to at least keep the number of operators down to Book & Stamets. ‪

And I would agree with you that it could stand to be more unique still.

Another thing of note: loved how Jeff Russo brought back this theme from season 3:

That's been the closing anthem of every episode of the fourth season thus far, actually!

I just hope they keep the Spore Drive limit of needing a dedicated biological navigator for long distance travel.

Any computer based spore jump would be limited to very short distances (< 1 Light Year), which would be enough of a limitation IMO.

Either way, please. No more Mirror Universe stuff for a while.

I am getting a little tired of the Multi-verse stuff though. I had just finished watching Loki before Discovery and I can't help but feel like 2022 will be the year of the multi-verse. It might get a little repetitive.
