From what I understand, they were planning on giving Plummer the same makeup and prosthetics as the others, but he didn’t like the idea of being hidden behind all that. So they compromised and gave him the minimal amount of both.

Well, it was something kinda of obscure that happened a couple of centuries earlier. But yes, it’s a stretch, even if it was established earlier in the episode the two of them were very ignorant on the 23rd century. Regardless, that episode is seen by many as one of the best of ds9.

well, the issue is using an established name for something else for no good reason. Call it a B7 and it’s a new Klingon ship. But this is of course the same we’re discussing above.So? The D7 designation could refer to multiple things. Not seeing the issue, but that's probably because I'm an obstinate idiot fan(with all due credit to @Nerys Myk ).

I like it when things are expanded. Adding a different make up approach is expansion.
Perhaps in a perfect world. Since I don't have that, I will assume that the D7 designation doesn't just apply to one type of ship. And I can work within that.

T&T was done for laughs. That’s why we got the scene where nobody recognized the TOS Klingons, even Bashir who should have totally known what TOS Klingons looked like. And Worf’s simple but effective answer of We Don’t Talk About It. It worked perfectly because we really didn’t need an in-universe reason why; we already knew the IRL reason. And that was just fine until the ENT writers decided that we all needed an explanation when we really didn’t.

DS9's "Blood Oath", and "Trials..." paved the way for ENT to explain things, because it became part of fandoms' consciousness. Despite how it was one of the best episodes by many... allegedly.

Obviously a Klingon demand of the Khitomer accords was that every holographic and photographic record of TOS Klingons be photoshopped into non-Augment Klingons. The alternative was a return to war, so the Federation agreed with this Orwellian rewrite of history.
it was fine for some, but discussions on why Klingons had changed look in universe was very common. Why? Because that kind of speculation and in-universe approach can be fun. And many liked the augment episodes a lot.
I mean, I've been on many Trek forums and it definitely is rated quite highly as one of the best.

To be honest with you, when it comes to DS9 it's not saying a lot. Despite the love here and other forums, which to some represents the general consensus, it never captured the imaginations of the general audience.
I mean, I have no problem with discussions about the changes in universe. But, that's not how this discussion is treated at least from my experience. It's treated quite poorly, rather than trying to integrate it in to the established universe as to why. As I stated in other posts, taking this as a difference impacted by the Augment virus course correction efforts makes more sense and expands upon previously established lore, even better than what TMP does.
A rewrite of TOS history would explain why O'Brien and Bashir didn't recognize Augment Klingons as Klingons.
Have all versions of Klingons in a scene and don't have any of our heroes draw any sort of attention to it and I have no problem with that.
Or I could ignore the crap done on DS9 and ENT and enjoy DISCO as is.
The ENT writers didn’t give a crap about DS9. Their job was to write a story around Brent Spiner’s character.

They overthought the Klingons in Discovery. The majority looked human at that time.
And most of it made no goddamned sense. Like all the money they blew on designing that extremely ornate Klingon spacesuit we see for all of 30 seconds.
Most of Fuller's changes were ones born out of making something visually distinct. It might have had more time if he had continued on but that was not the case.
Perhaps Fuller would have been a better choice for an original sci-fi show rather than a Star Trek prequel taking place ten years before TOS.
