It is kind of fun to imagine how much of this zaniness would be kept if the characters would make a live action appearance in, say.. Picard.

I mean, a live action lower decks would just be a Buffy the Vampire Slayer esque sci-fi comedy.

The quips, references, and running around with their heads cut off has been done in live action.

Some of the comments about the Mugato sex are a bit puzzling. We saw a bit of humping and heard some grunting but it’s not like we saw a Mugato porno.

You see way more graphic animal on animal stuff on Animal Planet, NatGeo, etc..

the one stroking his horn…not graphic per se but maybe the first true instance of “Family Guy” humor.

Before they could do that they would have to cast a slew of acceptable lookalikes... That could take some doing.

Not to mention that they would have to dub them all with the voices of the voice actors.

Yeah, that's not how it works. They didn't have Frank Welker dub Freddie Prinze Jr. in "Scooby Doo."

Yeah, but you need people who not only look like the characters but also kinda sound like them or people won't believe it.

"Believe it?" What are you talking about? There have been countless live action adaptations of animated properties at at NO point did the animated actors dub live action actors. And, very often, the live action actors bore only the most passing of resemblances to their animated versions.

Yeah, you mean like the Disney cartoons for example but that is different because the characters are a one-time shot. We're not used to them like in a series that goes on for several years.

Plus Star Trek fans are notorious nitpickers.

Which people criticized.
fair enough. Still, I think that the main criticism was the speed they recovered, not that they recovered, as removing borg implants had been done several times by Starfleet doctors by then.

Anyway, fixing a few missing teeth and a damaged hand should take minutes by the 24th century.

But don't dare criticize Lower Decks! It's just great!
well…it is! :p

We’ve had seen three different Spocks and two pikes in the last 10 years or so…recasting seem to kinda work in Star Trek (in Star Wars…better avoid mentioning solo! Even if calrissian was nice).

True and they recast the entire crew of TOS for 2009 but it's in a different context, everything is different. The ships don't look the same, the aliens don't look the same. Plus there are aliens everywhere. As far As I know, Spock was the only alien on Enterprise in TOS. In 2009 there are aliens at every corner and weird ones too like the big eye midwife...

I don’t know.
The voice cast looks close enough to me to pull it off, with the help of the make-up, costume and FX departments. T’Ana needs some CGI work for sure.
