News Kurtzman’s contract extended

I think Kurtzman just lucked into this job.
Could well be, I’ve read several autobiographies where the writers have mentioned luck in their stories to the top of their respective fields. But none of them were able to go the distance on luck alone and it’s the same for Kurtzman. He’s achieved and here’s the reward.

...unlike the rest of the world who obtained their jobs only by a pure meritocratic system and no whatever use of networking or favorabile circumstances..?

Your point there, Chief? All I said was it looks like he lucked into it, didn't say anything attacking him for it.

Kurtzman was last man standing

While that is true, Kurtzman got to this point by demonstrating his ability to deliver a product on time and on budget (unlike Fuller) and without drama (unlike Berg and Harberts). He landed the plane in DSC Season 2 and successfully launched Short Treks, Picard, and Lower Decks. Folks may or may not like his vision and roadmap but Kurtzman has proved to his bosses that he can reliably deliver successful products (by their internal measures).

He was in the right place at the right time to inherit the DSC S2 showrunner position and he took that opportunity and ran with it. That's why ViacomCBS is betting on him. So while I agree with @wayoung that luck certainly played a big part in Kurtzman's fortune, I think it is safe to say that this contract extension was earned on merit.

This happens a lot in entertainment/sports/politics. You happen to be in the right place at the right time. No disrespect intended towards Kurtzman.
Probably a combination of his prior experience with Star Trek and his established relationship with CBS via shows like Hawaii 5-0 and Scorpion.

He was already above the show runners, Secret Hideout is his company and was producing the shows from the beginning. He’s been the head of this iteration of the franchise since the beginning.

He wasn’t the show runner on season two by choice, it was by necessity when Harberts and Berg showed their asses.

Indeed. It shouldn't be forgotten that Kurtzman still has bosses - just as former fan-favorite piñatas Berman & Braga did. At the end of the day, it's TPTB at Paramount who hire these people. Kurtzman will be working within parameters the higher ups have laid down.

For those of us who have struggled to get a decent meal out of Trek over the past decade+ (and prior to that, the back end of the Berman / Braga run), perhaps it would be better to focus on the source, rather than any particular showrunner. If Paramount wanted a different flavor of Trek, then they would have hired someone else. He's giving them what they want.

I never thought I'd say this, but,

"Cone back, Berman and Braga. All is forgiven :D"

God no. Kurtzman Trek may not be top tier television, but at least in not falling asleep during it.

That's very fair.

There's no chance in hell you'd get a wink through the excessive bangs, sparks, and Sonequa Martin Green crying, whooping and screaming through every scene. :D

No to Berman and Braga. They had their chance and squandered it. I may not like everything that Kurzman has overseen but I am far more engaged with the characters than I ever was during the Berman years, with few exceptions.

Nice hyperbole.
Or exaggeration, either or.

Which, out of interest?
