Spoilers "Superman & Lois" Season 1 spoiler discussion!

It's just the cost of doing business.

So is your liver.

Sarah's story about Kyle "constantly" dousing down exploding meth labs has me wondering how many methlabs there are in Smallville?

Is it a drug town, where the local government is complicit in return for a kick back?

Is that how they pay for those fire engines.

Meth lab protection?

Silly Morgan, trying to buy out the town.

Those meth dealers are using your reverse mortgages to launder their money.

Or is the head of Intergang aware, and taking a cut?

I remembered that, too. Thing is, alcoholic (or "problem drinker") doesn't necessarily imply "reformed." Kyle doesn't have to have agreed to stop drinking for his drinking to be an issue in his family, particularly when he comes home drunk just before a big local event in which his wife is heavily invested and involved, and ends up sprawled messy and maudlin on the couch while his older daughter plays caretaker.

And in the episode 1 scene you describe, note that he gets out of hand to the point that Lana dismisses him ("go get the girls") and they leave.
Exactly.

Alcoholics and their loved ones do a lot of bargaining around drinking before dealing with it, if they ever deal with it. "Just one beer" on social occasions is classic.

Why do you think Kyle "sleeps on the couch all the time?" That's a classic, too.

I dunno about that. The world-record fastest sprinter, Usain Bolt, is 6'5", 207 pounds, and pretty darn muscular. He's not as bulky around the chest as the '90s Flash suit made Shipp look, but he's a big, powerful-looking guy.
Wow, I forgot he was that muscular.
But if you look at most of the marathon runners at the Olympics, they tend to be pretty thin.
Except that he is not an athlete or a runner.

Every Barry Allen is a nerd.

90s Flash should have been a tubbo at first. And because he's using magic to run fast, then nothing he does is exercise, so he should have stayed a fattie.
He's still running, so he'd still be getting the exercise, it's just that his speed in enhanced by the Speed Force.

Yeah, but the Flash has to do more than just run. He has to fight too, and sometimes he does a lot of superspeed carrying of people and things, building things, windmilling his arms superfast to create whirlwinds, all sorts of physical activities.

I wonder how we would perceive Superman now if Nick Cage would have played him. I don't think many like gritty Superman but would they take to a eccentric Superman I wonder. Jason

That was the worst casting decision in history, and would not have worked in any era.

Some people think that everyone who drinks is an alcoholic.

Which is fair.

Lana allows him to drink and drinks with him.

Maybe they are both alcoholics and off the wagon.

codependent and spiraling.

Although, the daughter ODed on Lana's "pills".

If Lana has a prescription pill problem, like Nurse Jackie had a prescription pill problem, then the underbelly here is much deeper and darker than you think.

I have a childhood memory of Gene Wilder as a drunk, he hides hooch in a chandelier... No, not blazing saddles.... Jesus, he married Rita Radner?

Wow.

Were they a power couple?

OK, that's a good point. I didn't really think about him doing that kind of stuff.

This pause after airing just a few episodes might be a ratings killer for Superman...

EDIT - speaking of ratings, they have totally stabilized around the 1.25 million mark. How does that compare? The last episode of Walking Dead had a series low of 2.11 million. Flash: 0.98, Supergirl's season finale last May: 0.65, Batwoman 0.54 - so Superman is still the leader of the CW DC comics shows.

EDIT: Black Lightning 0.48

My wife quit the series, half way through episode 3.

Gilda Radner.
She did a spot on Its Gary Shandlings show, the one where he is meta aware of the studio audience in his house.

"Oh my god, Gilda! You look amazing! What's your secret?

"Cancer."

Well when you don't have more episodes ready... (Due to a COVID-19 incident that shutdown production for a few weeks)

Doing repeats after four episodes probably wouldn't help the ratings either. That said I hope the ratings aren't affected too badly (even though it's already been renewed for a second season); because yeah it's the best start a CW DC superhero series has had since Season 1 of The Flash.

Well, its also their first A-list character... with The Flash being the second most well known. No surprise at who the 2 most popular ended up.

*sigh* May 18 can’t come soon enough.

My wife and I like the show so far, I love Superman's suit. And Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch are doing great work as Clark/Superman and Lois
