Nope, the season will be over before the games start.:vulcan: If the remaining episodes air without break the finale will air July 20, a week earlier if they do a 2 hour finale.

It's been confirmed they will be airing a new episode at least as late as August 10, and that Supergirl returns in S&L's time slot on August 24. I'm guessing S&L's finale will be August 17.

Never mind lol. If the show ran without a break, it would end right before the opening ceremony.

When was it confirmed that episodes will still run in August? Last I heard was that both S&L and Supergirl will run without breaks when they're on (which makes sense when they have 35 episodes between them and share a timeslot). Supergirl has 13 episodes left this season, if it returns at the end of august the finale would air in november, that would be super late.

It would also make sense to finish S&L before the olympics and not put in on hold and kill all momentum right before the season finale, it's a successful and promising new show. Supergirl is in its final season, airing a few episodes during the olympics wouldn't really matter.

According to that site Roswell, New Mexico and The republic of Sarah will air new episodes during the olympics on July 26th, so why wouldn't Superman & Lois air new episodes? It doesn't make sense to me, it's silly to do breaks and extend the current season that far into the fall.

Unless the plan is to get rid of the old fall to spring tv seasons and have the new season start in january or february permanently.

The strict fall-to-spring paradigm was left behind long ago. These days, the pattern is usually to premiere different shows at different times of year so that there's some new programming year-round. However, under the current circumstances, with productions being slowed by COVID precautions and outbreaks, they're probably trying to stretch out the available new material so it'll last longer.

Here is a new interview with Executive Producer and Show Runner Todd Helbing. Very revealing. It’s confirms what I have suspected for a long time. COVID changed everything. There was going to be a full crossover with Batwoman that had to be cancelled. (He does not mention it but I wonder if changing leads on Batwoman was an extra complication that this was bad time for it) Diggle’s 5 episodes across different series was going to be a specific arc. COVID stopped that too. He is still appearing on all those shows but less connected plot wise - I assume.

This show still is and always was part of the world of the other shows. The real world made it hard to spell that out as clearly as they planned.

Thought this one started off kind of slow, but man, those last couple of acts definitely made up for it. Really powerful stuff for Clark, Lois, and the boys. Superman in full fury, Jordan breaking Jonathan's wrist, Lois realizing there's more going on than even she realized (not just with Edge but with "Bridgewater"), and Jordan's seizure in the closing moments -- all great stuff. It's so good to have this show back.

Superman and Lois
Season 1 - Episode 6 - "Broken Trust"

Clark/SM / Lois: Tag delivers a beating to Jordan, demanding to know what he did to him. Jordan signals his father, but Tag flees the scene. Despite Superman trying to keep up with him (and causing a near disaster with a train) he escapes, leaving Superman wondering--and worrying about what Tag might have said to the DOD....

Lois believes Edge's mining of X-Kryptonite is at the heart of Tag's powers, and since Clark cannot see into the lead-lined location, she intends to investigate. Lois approaches Kyle and Lana for help looking into Edge's mines; the drunk Kyle barks at her, once again selling Edge as the savior of the town.

Lana understands Lois' interest, but cannot work against her--and the town's interests.

Luthor somehow gets inspector badges to the mines; he asks Lois to accompany him, using the idea that a black man visiting the site alone would raise suspicion (SEE NOTES). Lois is finally growing suspicious about Luthor, but her attention is caught by his obtaining a sample of X-Kryptonite...just as Larr discovers the two, firing her heat beams. Luthor uses his own energy weapon against her, allowing Luthor and Lois to escape. Luthor's cover story is falling apart by the minute.

Jonathan / Jordan Kent: Jonathan is eager to prove himself against his old team in the forthcoming game...

Jordan---after suffering from the beating Tag gave him--is having terrible headaches, and his powers triggers by noise. Later Clark tries to teach Jordan how to control his powers, and trying to deliver a punch Jonathan inspires Jordan by telling him his rival is laughing at him, and it works.

At the game, Jordan is still suffering from auditory problems; the coach asks Jordan to sack the quarterback of the Metropolis team, but Jordan goes too far and is benched by his father for deliberately using his powers against a regular person.

Returning to the game, Jordan is tackled by a number of the Metropolis players and ponce again, he suffers some sort of intensifying attack--his eyes ready to fire off, when Clark runs to him, and uses his own hand to block/absorb the blasts...

Jonathan tells Clark about Jordan's other attacks, and while Clark chastises Jordan about being careful, Jordan argues that he could have proven himself to those Metropolis boys who used to bully him; Clark--obviously--disagrees with that, but Jordan whines that he's not like Clark, who grew up to be Superman.

Their teammates come to drag the brothers to a celebration (against Clark's orders for them to stay in their room); they run into members of the Metropolis team--one twisting the knife into Jonathan about dating his ex, Eliza. Jordan steps up to defend his brother, but in the struggle that breaks out, Jordan throws a punch--only to be blocked by his brother, breaking his hand and forearm. With Jonathan's hand in a cast for 6 to 8 weeks and the possibility he may never play QB again, he clearly resents his brother.

Clark angrily reminds Jordan that he has responsibilities he cannot shirk. He's more confused than ever about his place in the world, feeling guilty for hurting his brother.

The next day, Sarah shares the phone clips from the bonfire--and reveals Tag's interest in him. She tests their relationship by asking him if there's anything to Tag's claims, but he lies, because he has to (SEE NOTES).

While talking to Lois, he falls to the ground, convulsing--his face glowing. Acting fast, Clark flies him to the fortress....

Sam Lane: Lane warns Clark about Tag--and his intention to stop him by any means necessary. Clark is not pleased with Sam's plan, as he sees Tag for what he is--a kid, despite his powers...

Edge/Kyle/Lana/Sarah: Kyle was fanboy-ing at Edge--until Edge offered Lana a job building the community center, along with a generous salary. Kyle, being Edge Fan #1 was bothered by Edge stepping over him to zero in on Lana, but for the time being, Kyle seems to support Lana...as long as he can drown his hurt ego in beer...

Tag spies on Sarah, visits her, but when he loses control of his powers, Sarah recoils in fear, but is knocked back into her house by his power. Tag kidnaps Sarah, taking her to Metropolis, and shows Sarah phone clips of the bonfire where Jordan's heat vision triggered the explosion which transformed him. Superman finds the boy, promising to protect him from the DOD...a bit too late. The DOD arrives, demanding Tag stand down, but the boy's powers are triggered, leading the DOD soldiers to open fire on Tag, but Superman deflects what turn out to be Kryptonite bullets. Superman is momentarily injured, and when confronting Sam, his father-in-law's excuse is that he's defending the United States...

NOTES:
Clark is on edge (no pun intended) knowing Sam is using Kryptonite weapons; he has to think their recent and significant differences of opinion on Tag (and more personal matters) could be the beginning of his father-in-law becoming an enemy. Look for that sub-plot to shape the season finale.

Things are quickly spiraling out of control for the Kents; with Lana knowing about Tag's powers--and she now has a closer working relationship with Edge, Edge learning about Lois and Luthor's discovery of X-Kryptonite (and what he might do with that sample), and even Sarah being fairly suspicious of Jordan, one has to imagine that sleepy little town is going to ripped apart.

Luthor mentioned not wanting to raise suspicion being a black man visiting the mines alone. While no character--so far--has made any statements which would lead one to believe racial profiling is a thing in that town, the episode's writers were wise to make a point in having a black character speak to that reality as something he's aware of every day, whether anyone else sees it, or not. It also makes a statement that his own world had the same social problems as Earth.

Jordan concealing his true nature from Sarah was the boy slowly accepting the reality of being superpowered, and how everyone in his life cannot (and should not) be "in" on something that is undeniably dangerous to anyone not like him for a number of reasons.

GRADE: B+.

How stupid were those soldier to shoot Superman with K bullets. At least they didn’t threaten his mum.
Another really good episode. It’s crazy how much better this show is to the other ArrowVerse shows.
Boy, they don’t make kryptonite like they used to.
In the comics he does build a immunity to it over time. Makes sense since this version has been so for nearly 20 years.

I don’t think that line had anything to do with his race. He’s just implying that him by himself would look more suspicious

I know bringing in some connections to the greater Arrowverse were cut short by covid but it might be a blessing in disguise. I think it works to the show's favor to be its own thing. Something like the reported crossover with Batwoman that was aborted just doesn't seem like a very natural fit.

This was excellent. The opening FX sequence with the train rescue was fantastic, a classic Superman action scenario that was executed with a very cinematic, epic look. I'm not convinced the railroad tracks would sink back into perfect alignment like that after being heat-visioned, but I'll allow it.

The rest was strong too, with some excellent family dynamics and ramping tension and conflicts. Hoechlin got to do a lot as both Clark and Superman and excelled at both, and Tulloch got to do a lot of Lois Laning with the mine investigation. I loved the bit where she told her super-hubby "No, you stay and watch the kids while I go after the evil mastermind," and he had no trouble going along with that. It's great to showcase that they're equal partners, and that she's a formidable force for good in her own right.

I'm a bit unsure about the idea of a high school football team in Smallville traveling all the way to Metropolis for an away game. How far afield do school teams generally travel? Or is this show following Smallville's lead in putting Metropolis in Kansas? (Although, really, Smallville was historically portrayed in the comics as just a few miles west of Metropolis. It wasn't established as a Kansas town until Superman: The Movie -- although a '40s Superman radio story had established Clark's hometown as Centerville, Iowa.)

According to a writers' assistant on the show, the most they've nailed down is "driving distance." I guess far enough away that it makes sense to get a hotel room and bus the team back in the morning, but not so far that Clark and the boys couldn't get back to Smallville before dawn, even with a visit to the hospital. High School football is played in the fall, so that at least gives you a few more hours of night to play with than if the episode was taking place at this time of year.

Does anyone know which real-world city is standing in for Metropolis in the show? I haven't recognized any of the buildings or landmarks off-hand they way I can tell that National City is L.A. or Gotham is Chicago.

Not surprising. As with Smallville, it's narratively convenient to keep the locations close together. Still, it kind of diminishes the impact of the Kents leaving Metropolis if it's still so close by.

It's filmed in Surrey, a city within Greater Vancouver.

Luthor said:

"Right now, the tunnels are packed with inspectors. Security is stretched thin--a lone black guy might seem suspicious, but the wo of us together will seem more legit."

He made a rather big, undeniable comment on racial profiling; he's saying that in the eyes of anyone around that site, a lone black man would not be seen as expected or normal in that environment, but trigger negative perceptions.
