Uhura is a good choice if true. I couldn't see them doing more than one more TOS main crewmember. I was kind of hoping for Scotty, but not too hard. Looking forward to this in 2022.

And then Paramount+ will start slapping the Star Trek name onto a bunch of random older TV shows, like how many direct-to-video unrelated sequels weren't even supposed to be sequels until one of the studio bean counters changed the title.

    Star Trek: Space Rangers
    Star Trek: Defying Gravity
    Star Trek: Starhyke
    Star Trek: Odyssey 5
    Star Trek: Earth 2
    Star Trek: Mercy Point
    Star Trek: Space Precinct

So, 1-2 possible non-humans so far (that we know of), right?
La'an because of the name, and a possible Vulcan because of the greeting?

They'll introduce a Native American character once they find where that Voyager consultant went and hire him back.

Well, half human. Yeah, I forgot! My favorite TOS character, sheesh...
    *snicker*
    Well done.

Or maybe they'll just use a cardboard cut-out.

One of them could be playing an alien, we don't know, they didn't give us any character details.

None of the new cast is a white male. That should cause some meltdown in some of the new fanbase.

I'm curious what's up with Doctor Boyce and if we'll see him.

I dunno. I was always under the impression Uhura was relatively green in TOS. Not as much as Sulu and Chekov, but still on the younger side.

The two characters who would have made the most sense to include would have been McCoy and Scotty, because they were notably older than the rest of the TOS mains. Of course, they're two more white dudes in a show that's going to have three white leads. Thus I can understand the desire to make the supporting cast as diverse as possible.

Uhura didn't join the Enterprise until Kirk did, and the people working on Strange New Worlds know and respect that fact and won't contradict it.

Also, nowhere in that Illuminerdi article does it make any reference to who the characters in question might be, so this idea that the names listed on casting sides are 'codenames' for characters like M'Benga, Uhura, and Christine Chapel is nothing more than somebody talking out of their :censored:.

I don't think we're going to see as many main TOS characters in SNW as people believe.

I hold firm on this position because I think Paramount+ wants some way to distinguish this series from the movies. Right now, it's looking like they might be too similar if they have too many of the same characters.

I don't think so either. I think they want to make a mark and have the newer characters be more dynamic, since Pike and Spock are known quantities.

It should be obvious that we're not going to see TOS characters other than Spock in SNW because Spock is the only TOS character who served under both Pike and Kirk.
