But it's not consistent with the 24th century, where navigation wears red.
In the 24th, red IS the command color. They switched it because Patrick Stewart looked better in red than gold.

Wouldn't have worked. Michael probably didn't find out about the Vance-Osyraa conference until the after-action debriefings.
I agree. Georgiou was the closest, but even she loved Michael and would side with her no matter what.I think Season 4 would be really helped honestly with an outsider joining the crew who acts as a mild antagonist to Burnham. A Seven to her Janeway basically, who comes in, doesn't totally obey orders, and generally stinks up the joint. It would be intriguing because the shoe would be on the other foot for Michael. Instead of being the rebellious junior officer, now she has to learn to deal with a rebellious junior officer herself.
If they keep the same "supportive circle of friends" vibe with the bridge crew they had this season, it's going to be intolerably boring.
I already miss Georgiou. I think they do need to bring in someone else who creates a little tension and mild dissent. I’d happily see Adira written off and replaced with a more dynamic character. I liked them to begin with, but the character ended up being something of a non-entity (which is ironic considering Trill are basically multiple entities). I’m glad they didn’t kill off Book as I expected. I’d like to see him stick around if only because he was this season’s eye candy and his relationship with Burnham was one of surprisingly few times a Trek couple had actual chemistry.
To me "Genocide of the Borg" makes about as much sense as genocide of cancer, or AIDS... Every member of the Borg would choose to be his/her former self if they could.
I wish I had Su'kal's holodeck so I could bring my imaginary friend out to play. Been decades since I saw him last...
Yeah, prior to "I, Borg", I wouldn't have been very hard on Nechayev for backing that play. But after, when the Federation has very strong indications, if not hard proof, that enslaved Borg will regain their individuality once freed, even after long-term immersion in the collective... yeah, that's a bad look for the Federation, and worse for one of their admirals to get self-righteous about it.
I never had a problem with Admiral Necheyev. Yeah she was tough and straight-talking but there you go - not everything is all sunshine and rainbows is it?
The Borg in particular were a horrific threat to the Federation, arguably the greatest threat it had ever faced as of the 2360s and it was Starfleet's responsibility to defend against them.
Can't or wasn't programmed to?
Well....yeah...I get it. But she’s also a background character many people were actively hoping would get the Executive Officer position.
I can't speak for others, but the only reason why I thought Nilsson might get the XO/first officer position is because in multiple episodes, whenever the Captain and first officer are off the bridge, she always seems to get the "conn" (i.e. she is in charge of the bridge---she sits in the Captain's chair or she gives orders to other members of the bridge crew), to the point where I assumed she was Discovery's second officer and thus probably the most qualified to take over as first officer.
.....
Nilsson certainly seemed like a more likely candidate than Tilly for first officer. But then again who didn't? Certainly Nilsson seems to have put in a few shifts in command of the bridge.
You know with time (and repetition) you can get used to any bullshit, no matter how outrageous.
Yup..it still continues to amaze me that some bullshit is totally fine and other totally wrecks Star Trek and is an abomination before the lord Roddenberry.Yeah, way I've always seen it, to enjoy TV sci-fi in general, and Star Trek in particular, sometimes you've got to forgive some ridiculous bullshit. It's just part of the deal.
Anything is possible. It's possible that Nilsson isn't technically qualified to serve as XO, in that she's an engineer who was only given the Conn because of her rank and seniority amongst the bridge crew. Tilly might be the only one, besides Saru and Burnham, who was enrolled in the Command Training Program and could theoretically take Command officially.
