DESIGN NEWS: Geoffrey Mandel

Stellar Cartography has been written up and designed as if the audience were in the 2380's, "sapients in the streets" people of whatever species. Star Charts is more precision-oriented in its maps.

That shows that he understands the concept of period-specific designs, more so than, say, John Eaves does.
That shuttle was designed by John Eaves. I'm guessing Mandel just did the paint job.

Plus some earlier iterations, including one with the classic three windows.

We already have an Enterprise F, Odyssey class:

Personally, I would love to see the Odyssey class canonized on screen.
Please don't embed or link images from Wikia/Fandom sites, they won't show up properly for other people.

Yes. And Ryan Church designed the Abramsprise. That doesn't change the fact that Mandel's artwork depicting them makes them look far more like how they'd appear in TOS than how they appeared in the movie. To me that shows a respect for the source material and knowledge of the specific time period those ships are supposed to hail from.

My apologies. The pic showed up ok when I looked at my post on trekbbs. I did not know that it would be blocked.

This is the pic of the Enterprise F that I tried to share.

My only issue with the "Odyssey Class" is that giant gap in between the two necks.
I'd honestly prefer that to be filled in with more StarShip "Structure" and extend the StarDrive to be slightly past the rear of the Warp Nacelles like on Voyager.
She needs to have a bigger and thicker StarDrive Section IMO.
The current one is to "Tad Polish" IMO.

I really, really hope that if we see the Enterprise-F in PIC, that it will be a new design and not something that was made for a video game ten years ago. I would like to have faith that the show’s producers don’t feel beholden to Star Trek Online.

This is basically what the generic ships in the PIC finale armada looked like.

I'm pretty much a life long Trekkie (since the late 70s), and I've never even played STO.

I suspect that Geoff will deliver on his end of things, whatever else we argue about here.

The Luna class Titan was considered soft canon until Lower Decks made it fully official. I know how much you hate the Odyssey class, but I wouldn’t put it past them to finally canonize it in the same way in Picard.

From what I understand, the producer of LDS used the Pocket Books Titan design as a tribute to Sean Torangeau. I don’t see the producers of PIC making such a tribute for the STO Enterprise-F, especially since what the original designer came up with was quite different than the finished product.

Yeah. Do both anniversaries fall on the same year?

If so, It might be a good time for an update to Star Charts. I assume that Tim Peel will have to be brought in for the 32nd Century components.

I don't mind seeing the Luna and Vesta and Odyssey classes getting TV screen time alongside the established stuff. Actually, the idea pleases me...but I digress.
