The Stargate Franchise - A First Timer's Watchthrough

here was also the storyline with Daniel and Dr. Lee in Central America looking for a fountain of youth device hoping it can be used to build a weapon to take out these new guys. They get captured by Anti-Honduran government rebels.
I got to say, seeing Daniel and Dr. Lee getting tortured by those terrorists always got to me more than whenever the characters get captured and tortured by the Goa'uld. Probably because in this case, these are bad guys that actually do exist.

^I agree, though I also agree with Tomalak that that whole storyline doesn't really seem to go anywhere. It's not as though we expect those rebels to ever show up again, in any case.

that was my main issue. They turned an Indiana Jones type storyline of exploration and wonder to torture that didn’t really amount to anything. I guess it was to show they were in a terrible part of the world we already knew that. What benefit does it have for what this episode was trying to portray.

What the stone would do.

Seeing the stone affect a bunch of people we were never going to have any investment in, to me, wasn't very effective.

Could have been an interesting mash-up of SG-1 vs. "Night of the Living Dead" or such, especially if innocent people were involved.

I think the stone could have benefited from it's own episode but for what was needed it did the job, for me.

Fallout

Nice to see Jonas back, but the Kelowens are so annoying. The representatives of those three nation states remind me of today's world and Democrats and Republicans (Or basically any political party). They hold ideologies so close to the vest that even if the world is experiencing annihilation, they will still argue based on ideology instead of the big picture. My favorite part of this episode was when Jack came to the ambassadors and said they they couldn't relocate to the Madrosian world because they were nice people and didn't deserve to be subjugated to how these ambassadors behave. As for the rest of the episode, it was good, especially the stuff with Kianna the Goa'uld.

I think they were going for whole danger of the situation. Our guys are already in a dangerous situation with dangerous people but what happens when you introduce something that bumps up that danger another notch. It's sort of like how in Indiana Jones we know the Ark of the Covenant is a very dangerous thing but imagine how much more dangerous it becomes if Nazi's get hold of it. I think they were sort of playing off that note. The last people you would want with this dangerous alien device are the exact people who get hold of it and of course when they start going into zombie mode that is the episodes version of the Nazi's faces being melted.

Yeah, but the Nazis were the primary antagonists of Lost Ark and recognized as a major threat even without the Ark.

Did anyone really think the folks here were going to amount to anything, whether or not they had Zombie powers?

I think Lee dying might have been possible. Generally speaking though I think it mostly was just a excuse to have some fun action in the jungle, get the device and have Jack interacting with a military guy who is a little more ragged than we are use to seeing on Stargate. The show sometimes wants to remind us that Jack is not just a funny guy with zingers but he also has some hardened soldier in him. Some Kurt Russel in him you could say.:)

Chimera

The writers really did drop the whole Daniel memory erased thing. It was mentioned in this episode very briefly, and then kind of pushed aside. Maybe I can chalk it up to Daniel ascends, breaks the rules to help his friends out of the Abydos situation, which has a dire unintended consequence of Anubis destroying that world only for Oma to step in and clean up the mess, and Daniel's punishment is to be brought back to earth with his memory erased only to slowly be given it back over time. I'm just trying to put this together anyway. It is probably a sucky explanation. ;)

Anyway, I liked that they finally "saved" Sarah from Osiris. I liked her character and I didn't want to see her die. I'm also a little iffy on Carter's new relationship with Pete. He seems like a quality guy (And her father in her hallucination in Grace did say she should pursue a relationship outside of work) except for the whole stalking thing. Still, both had good chemistry so that's a plus. I'm open to seeing where it goes.

I have to say for a Season build as one of the best, I'm having some mixed feelings about it. The episodes are not bad, but they are not really blowing me away for the most part. I would say most have been average to good. I guess when people say I'm in for a wild ride and Season 7 is excellent, maybe my expectations might have been a little high? I still like this series and I'm very excited to be watching it, but 15 episodes into season 7 and I still think Season 6 was better. Is that wrong?

I guess my question is of the episodes this season I've seen so far, are there any episodes I've been lukewarm about that fans absolutely love? I'm thinking Lifeboat might be one, but part of me thinks Grace might be another. So far my favorite episodes this season was the two part premiere.

If it helps, I don't remember much about "Grace". :p

It was the one where Sam finds herself alone on Prometheus and hallucinates stuff, like her SG-1 crew and Jacob and it's kind of a inter-personal life experience kind of thing. There are also Aliens and a little girl which they don't really explain.

Yeah, that is pretty close. I won't say anything more, in case of spoilers. The amazing season 8 episode "Threads" answers a lot of questions about Daniel's time as an Ascended being.

Personally, I hate the Sam/Pete relationship. I did not think Pete was a good match for Sam.

The second half of Season 7 should change your mind. :)

The next episode "Death Knell" is great. The two parter "Heroes Part 1 & 2" is amazing. And the finale "The Lost City Part 1 & 2" ends in an amazing epic action sequence.

Definitely. Personally, I love ""Lifeboat" and "Grace".

I remember the premise; I just can't remember the episode itself. (laughs)

Death Knell

That's more like it. Best episode I've seen a while (I liked the Evolution two part episode, but didn't quite love it). This moved a lot of things forward. The Tok'ra/Jaffa/Tauri alliance is in trouble, Sam goes up against a super soldier (Her ingenuity reminded me of Starbuck's in the episode You Can't Go Home Again from BSG, by the way), and it looks like Jacob has some mending fences to do. Everything worked in this episode, and I especially liked General Hammond being more aggressive than he's been lately. Also, we learn that the weapon to defeat these new Kull warriors works, even if they could be a little more efficient. Sam's been getting the bulk of the episodes lately which is great. Amanda Tapping has really brought a lot for her character so far this season, same with Shanks. That's been a positive.

.

No, it's not wrong. What's wrong is you were lied to by those people saying season 7 is good / best. Season 7 wasn't plan like season 6 was, so some of the episodes (Like Avengers or whatever Teal'c in a computer game episode.) were rejected story ideas for past seasons.

However the last few episodes are really good. Season 8 is epic.

Season 6 also doesn't have Pete, so right there it's better.
