Vulcan joined the Federation on the proviso they could keep their personal information private. Archer agreed.

Well, that, or so they could have access to all of humanity's best weed. That's not logic keeping most of them mellow. It's Colored Food Cube Cacophany*.

When Tilly said the Angel's brain patterns matched Michael, I did wonder for a moment if it was going to turn out to be the Mirror version in the suit, and she was actually manipulating the crew. But I think it's more likely that our Michael will use the suit later in the series, resulting in Airiam's info.

I think way too many folk appear to have conditioned themselves to anticipate fanwanks from the Star Trek series they are watching than every really show up in practice.

Exactly. Whenever there's yet another outrage over expectations not being met and theories being disproved, it reminds me of the first wave of vitriol after The Last Jedi's premiere (before it got political), when you could read hundreds upon hundreds of people summarily dismissing it as an unwatchable piece of crap, mostly because it disproved the biggest theories about Rey being either a Skywalker spawn or the long-lost secret daughter of Obi-Wan.

I'm thinking that perhaps when this season is over and one can go back and binge it in its entirety in one sitting, many of the complaints being expressed will have somewhat logical answers, that watching in a weekly format leaves lengths of time to speculate incorrectly about.

Of course, if one finds the story generally lacking anyway, then nothing is going to cure that.

I see your point
But I did exactly that with Season 1, rewatched it all in a binge before settling down to Season 2
What I found was that I actually did not like S1 as much as I had convinced myself to like it on first view.
I watched "The Red Angel" for the second time the other night and found myself examining my initial grade of 6/10, and wondered perhaps if it was even more disappointing than first view.

The acting and character moments in this episode were truly amazing, and I was certainly enthralled and entertained.

The plot though seems a bit questionable. I really don't get why they were so adamant about capturing the Angel. The Angel, who was believed to be Burnham was on their side. Presumably she should have contacted them if it was possible or in any way a good idea. Furthermore I really don't get why they expected their plan to work if Burnham knew about it... It only worked because they were wrong about the Angel's identity.

Unlike some here, I am not disappointed by the Angel being a time traveller with some tech. I certainly prefer that over some mystic spore god. I also suspected that Burnahm's parents might have time travelled instead of dying, once the details about their research were revealed.

In any case, the story as a whole is hard to judge at this point. Maybe everything will make sense in the end. Not that I have exactly high hopes for that, they're written themselves into quite difficult position, but sometimes miracles do happen!

This is your brain on predetermined expectations.

Her "What just happened?!" after Georgiou was taunting Stamets and Culbert was one of the funniest lines and deliveries of the season.
Tilly's line at the end was the only thing that saved that ridiculously immature scene for me. Basically an instant meme …

So, we want it to be more like Star Trek except without all the bad stuff that was a part of Star Trek?
Yeah, that's essentially what I want as a viewer and a fan. And I don't think it's too much to ask.

When Tilly said the Angel's brain patterns matched Michael, I did wonder for a moment if it was going to turn out to be the Mirror version in the suit, and she was actually manipulating the crew.
My wife stopped the episode at that point and asked me basically the same thing, if it could be Mirror Burnham in the suit.

I can live with shit episodes, as long as they're the exception and not the rule. Though it would be harder now than in the past because, outside of late-DS9 and ENT S3, the episodes weren't part of an arc. So far, I haven't disliked any episodes of DSC, so it hasn't been a problem for me, but I can see where it could be. You don't want important turning points to be in a horrible episode. So quality control matters more than it did before.

Well, it only bothers me in the sense that when bad stuff show up I consider it a television show that could be better. It's still Star Trek for me, warts and all.
In my opinion, all things could be better. But, I can see how that can impact a person's viewing enjoyment.

Fireproof, it is nice that you live in some sort of constant zen euphoria where nothing bothers you, but pointing that out really doesn't make other people's criticism invalid, nor is it a particularly helpful contribution. We are here to discuss this show, including the things we didn't like and which we wish were better.
