I thought the Spore room was cut off from the warp core because of the sphere?

I forget the specifics of what did it, but something caused the spore room to be cut off from main engineering

Commander Nhan is interesting. I've seen other people remark about her too but they barely showed her and she's listed as a guest star only.

True, but many revivals depend on the music of the current era whatever that might be. As I recall, A Fifth of Beethoven rocketed to number 1 on the Billboard charts in 1976. It was, after all, perfect DISCO music. True, only 170 years old at the time, but still... And then there was all the Gregorian Chant stuff that came back into vogue in the 90s for a while.

A Fifth was also quite popular back in 2002 when Robin Thicke based his "When I Get You Alone" hit on it.

As I've said before, popular songs/music never die or fade away to obscurity, they just wait around to be reDiscovered.

    Gave this ep a 9!

Tig Notaro knocks it outta the park, IMO - and I'm hoping she stays as long as possible on the show!

Reno was sent by the Chief Engineer to "firewall off critical propulsion systems", and equates the location she arrived at with "a greenhouse" and the very antithesis of the place that uses antimatter and dilithium for warp. She arrives from the direction opposite the red-glowing door thing, FWIW.

Of course, Stamets says "Engineering to bridge" when hailing from the location. It's also the go-to location for restoring shields. And yes, ultimately there's the line where the heroes there are cut off from "the warp core". Not "main engineering" but "the warp core". Since they are cut off from pretty much everything, this does not help us establish where exactly the warp core might be, though. Could be right behind the door with the red glow. Could be several decks away.

So, we've seen five full commanders (Burnham, Saru, Reno, the Doctor and Nhan) and can infer at least one more if Reno is not the chief engineer.
    What's the collective noun?

    An Indecision of Commanders?

The Enterprise-A had four commanders and three captains at one point. Starfleet apparently liked to overload their ships with command level officers for a few decades there in the 23rd century.

I don't recall ever seeing more than two commanders (by their sleeves) in the same episode on TOS.

An example of when there were two shown, including Spock, is here in "The Enterprise Incident":

I meant Star Treks IV And V. Hence the A in Enterprise-A

But you’re right, the 1701 seems to have well-distributed ranks.

...Which would be the E-A decades, supposedly.

Heck, Reno isn't even crew. Probably. We never learn why she's still aboard, even though Number One just made use of some sort of a transportation resource that will get her all the way to Earth.

And why is Nhan there? Her presence takes the Knights of the Oblong Table by a degree of surprise, just like Stamets is surprised by Reno. Is it just that Pike believes in hosting all sorts of informal passengers (witness the two youngsters in civvies in "The Cage") and letting them contribute?

I don't think You can say that the Enterprise crew during that period is representative of the entire fleet. It seemed to me that Kirk was given a whole lot of latitude to pack the ship with his pals after saving Earth.

NCC-1701-A didn't have a few decades. She was launched in 2286 at the end of TVH and called home to be decommissioned in 2293 at the end of TUC.

    That's two decades already. ;)

Also, the TOS movies basically all deal with "special cases" where the top officers present are there for reasons other than Starfleet resources allocation decisions.

In TMP, Kirk throws together a posse. The only officer we know wasn't there by Kirk's special decree is Decker.

In ST2, Kirk goes to a birthday cruise and invites guests.

In ST3, Kirk organizes a gang for a heist.

in ST4, Kirk's gang does a sequel to their heist, and gets beatified.

In ST5, Kirk is set up as the fall guy. This is the movie that's the least "special" in terms of assignment and circumstances - but it still falls within the period of his and his crew's beatification and casting in bronze aboard a replica starship.

In ST6, Kirk hosts a diplomatic troupe consisting of his former and de facto XO. And is again set up as the fall guy. Exactly because he's beatified and cast in bronze.

NCC-1701-A doesn't count - starfleet gave it to kirk and his pals as a toy for saving the earth
