Is the Picard show the "last chance saloon" for anyone else?

NO. The Picard series is not a "last chance saloon" for me in regard to the Trek franchise. There has always been plenty of action, along with cerebral topics in ALL of the Trek shows, including "Discovery". I cannot say the same for the Kelvin timeline movies.

Because I don't consider any part of the JJ films to be canon.

And reasons 'n stuff.

 

Not just characters, but characters portrayed in an authentic way, not Jake Skywalkerizing the original actors or hipsterizing the young versions.

 

The whole point of canon is that fans don't get to choose what's canon. We can like stuff or dislike it, but the people making the show get to say what is considered canon, and the destruction of Romulus is canon.

Well, that's different.

 

Kurtzman is developing this Picard series, how can you not expect something similar to Disco??? It's not as if Ronald D. Moore is writing and producing it or better yet Executive Producing it??? This is a CBSALLACCESS production under the watchful eye of Alex Kurtzman. I'm beginning to believe this Picard series is going to somehow merge the Trek universes into one, to end the bullshit prime nonsense. Its kinda like Star Trek at it's end becomes something new... and on with 3 more spinoffs shows because CBSALLACCESS can't survive without the Star Trek brand.

 

Not the "Last Chance Saloon."

 

Not a fan of Discovery, though I thought "Brother" was a step up from season one, and I don't consider the Picard show a "last chance saloon". I'll always give Trek a chance to impress me. I think it is coded into my DNA.

 

Seeing as how TNG is not my favorite iteration of Trek, no, this show is not the "Last Chance Saloon" for me.

Not at all. I've enjoyed the Trek we've got in the last decade at least as much - and in some cases quite a bit more - than what we got previously.

I'll be disappointed if the Picard show isn't good, but I can't believe it'd be a worse way for him to go out than Insurrection and Nemesis.

I'm not really interested in the Lower Decks or Emperor Georgiou shows based on their concepts, but I'll still give them a go.

 

Kurtzman is an executive producer, but he's explicitly said Discovery is the only series he's the showrunner on. That means that he won't be in charge of the writers room. We don't know who is, but as long as it's not Akiva Goldsman, it will probably be better than Kurtzman.

 

I feel that this new show is the latest salvo in the splatter-gun approach hoping that an idea will be successful.

Trek died in 2001 after voyager, so I'm more interested in an actual proper revival, a picard series could possibly be that but I am immensely skeptical.

It takes more than a franchise label to make a new show/film authentically Trek.

 

Please define authentic Trek for me. Because that went by the wayside (for me) in TNG.
