Didn't Frank Welker voice Spocks scream in Star Trek III?
Apparently he did! Well, add 1 to all of those in my list post TSFS. LOL!
Didn't Frank Welker voice Spocks scream in Star Trek III?
^^^What I didn't like was the death of blue-shirt guy: Came out of nowhere, had no impact on the plot, and no one really cared about it anyway. It was only there to sgnify "danger". Which is okay - but goddamn have his colleagues have a scene of mourning afterwards!
I agree with this. What Pike said, to me, was enough to satisfy acknowledgement of the loss. They were in a crucial situation. No time or place for eulogies, burials and laughs over drinks.^^^
Sorry, but this EXACT thing is VERY MUCH TOS/TOS era. (and I loved it just for that. Yes, of course we knew at least one of the two 'extras' with Pike and Burnham was going to bite it - and once the Science guy IGNORED Pike's order to 'tuck in' twice - you KNEW it was going to be him - but as to afterwards, yeah, the 'He's dead, too bad, let's move on...' is VERY TOS. Besides Pike did mention to Burnham when she wanted to rescue him that he already lost one officer today, and didn't want to loose another.)

I'm watching it now, enjoying it so far, but the science officer death was really lame and how it was played for laughs was dumb, you could see it coming a mile off. Some of the humour is good, but other times it is just jarring Marvel quippy stuff. I like Saru making a joke about his tendril things, but then within the same few minutes you have the bridge crew acting like children and full out panicing for humour. The overall scene was great, but I could really do without all the failed attempts at humour, I'm not really sure where all this snarky humour is coming from in recent years, I remember TLJ had this problem (among a lot of other problems ofc) too.
Sometimes it seems the writers forget it is supposed to be a professional military.
Captain's prerogative.Sounds like they were in contact with Starfleet, just too far out to make it back in time and ordered to continue its five-year mission. They should be able to just download the specs and start replicating, er uh... fabricating the new uniforms at any time. Why Pike decided to toss on an "old uniform" is beyond me. And why he used to wear turtlenecks, and Kirk's crew will also wear the same turtlenecks in 8 years is a mystery never to be solved.
That big of a "Christopher Pike" fan, eh?I was going to give this episode a 10, if not for the completely unnecessary and frankly insulting recasting of one of the greatest Star Trek characters. So I give it a 3.

Also anyone else think the Bridge crew gushing over the Enterprise at the start was a bit odd? It just felt weird to me. Awkward.
CLAUDIUS: You're a clever liar, Captain Kirk. Merikus was a spaceship captain. I've observed him thoroughly. Your species has no such strength.
MERIK: He commands not just a spaceship, Proconsul, but a starship. A very special vessel and crew. I tried for such a command.
wait, I'm confused. So, you're already bored with a storyline that used up 5 minutes of this episode, which is actualöy not that much and less than the usual B-Plot of 90s Trek, BUT you want more substance over style? Are you sure you can handle more substance, because I'm afraid you might get bored with that even faster. Not a fan of this serialised approach on Star Trek. I’m already getting bored of the red angels storyline and there is as many as 14 episodes about it to go. I found myself cringing at everything that came out of Tilly’s mouth. I didn’t need to see what seemed like 20 minutes of flashbacks about Spock and Burnham. The only plus is the visuals; style over substance.
2/10

Mitich is still on the show, she's just playing a different character now.I was going to give this episode a 10, if not for the completely unnecessary and frankly insulting recasting of one of the greatest Star Trek characters. So I give it a 3.

And they all say the same thing "By the way, the fortune cookies are poisoned."No. MU fortune cookies are all printed in Comic Sans.

You've never grown a beard and then shaved it off?Still. You're talking about Spock going from this:

To this:

And then to this:

Not exactly linear.

Skepticism is warranted.
Though, visual reboot.. for those who have accepted that.
It's an award for Cat fighting.I also noticed he was a recipient of or nominee for the Carrington Award. Isn't the Carrington Award a medical honor bestowed upon a physician who's made a significant career achievement in the medical sciences? DS9 never indicated that the award was bestowed in other fields.
How the hell is that racist?Just starting to watch the first episode, its a shame no one noted the ignorant racist connotation of natural black hair being something that needs to be tamed. They should have left the young Michael's hair natural in Season 1 and not that false straightened bowl cut. The actress hair looks good in the introduction scene that I just saw.
Folks talk about Toxic masculinity which does exist, well so does Toxic eurocentricism.
Ok the opening credits are coming on now.
