THE ORVILLE Season Two...

I would be disappointed if they went that route.
I should rephrase that the crew won't take them as seriously. I imagine the people playing the top secret agents of the Union will be played super straight. As I said, picture Colonel Flagg (and other Army Intelligence officers) portrayed in M*A*S*H, possibly with a little bit of MIB mixed in.

There is a lot of potential here.

Malloy being an ace pilot who is no nonsense with no sense of humor. :D

Gordon: Man I'm such a dick here...

You'd have to give it some kind of twist, like everyone is controlled by Brain Slugs.

Then give Mercer the burden of either destroying "paradise" or leaving it be.

There may be an opening at some point for MacFarlane to mock that kind of shit, at least in passing.

The Orville doesn't make fun of Star Trek on fundamental levels but it does make good gags of some of the franchise's narrative tics and cliche moves. Mercer says "open a channel to the other ship" and starts into his address only to have Alara tell him that she hasn't made the connection yet.

Nonsense like Section 31 is ripe for mockery.

That's one of the best examples of why I like the Orville. In Star Trek, they ask to open the channel and then 2 seconds the captain starts speaking. To have a scene poking fun at that entire trope in The Orville is what makes it fun. It's not mean-spirited, just humorous.

Yeah, that was a particularly good bit. It's subtle, but it also serves to give the feeling that these are normal people who happen to have a job serving on a starship.
