Still No DSC Casting Announcement for New Captain?

Saru went rogue on Pahvo and Burnham committed mutiny. Neither of them are fit to command.

Therefore, command of the Discovery should fall to its second officer, Acting Captain Airiam. Her name will be legend.

Deputy Director Bullock as captain? The parties would certainly be better.

I don't expect Jason Isaacs back in more than a guest-starring capacity, if that. He was a name brought in to bring marquee value for the show's launch.
I've seen people say this from time to time, and it puzzles me. I agree that Isaacs is talented and delivered what was easily the standout performance of DSC s1, but a "name"? He's done a lot of obscure TV, low-budget movies, and voice work, but his most high-profile role is probably still Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. That's hardly a star-level role.

The canonicity of this is dubious at best, but in TSfS, they show the outline of the three-nacelled Federation-class dreadnought from the Franz Joseph Starfleet Technical Manual next to a drawing of the TOS-era Enterprise on a bridge display, and it's larger. That ship was also supposed to be contemporary with TOS, or at least had the TOS styling rather than the TMP Refit look.

The dreadnought USS Entente was mentioned in dialogue in TMP (the Epsilon 9 comm chatter). It's even called a dreadnought. So that makes it canon.

IIRC it even read out its registry number as well.

M-A talk page claims the directors cut of TMP muddles the audio so you can't make it out.

Personally, I don't think there's a chance it's Prime Lorca. I don't expect Jason Isaacs back in more than a guest-starring capacity, if that. He was a name brought in to bring marquee value for the show's launch. He's already got his Star Trek retirement package, and I can't see him being interested in becoming a Trek lifer. He's got other stuff to do.

I agree. He was the christopher eccleston for Trek.

That's true. But my impression is that he has a lot of options. I would also guess they paid him more than most of the main characters put together. I could see him coming back for guest spots, if he really did enjoy the experience, but I assume part of the appeal was that it was a limited-time engagement. If he'd wanted to sign up permanently, and they wanted to pay him to stay, I'd guess they could and would have made that happen.

If I were him, I wouldn't want to play a more milquetoast version of the same character. If they can come up with something super-compelling for ReguLorca, maybe they can lure him back. But so far there's only been one character like that, and it was in no small part because Isaacs was playing him.

That's a lot of assumptions there.

No reason they need to, really. The three Sareks and two Saaviks have been only broadly physically similar to each other. While Quinto was a great match, the physical similarities with the rest of the Kelvin cast are passing at best.
Todd Habercorn would be excellent

I'd love if Lorca came back as captain though as far as I'm concerned he's dead due to swapping places onto an exploding shuttle. I realize though that if they snag hi they can change that fact with a few lines of dialogue.
However I like the idea that if Prime Lorca does become captain of Discovery then he plays the part almost exactly the same. Dark, dirty, soldier over butterfly catcher and always eying a place higher up the chain of command. He just happens to be a "good guy" this time.
I haven't read the novels so I've no idea if this marries with appearances by him up to this point.
