Still No DSC Casting Announcement for New Captain?

Into Darkness established that the 5-Year missions were a new thing, and Kirk's Enterprise was the first ship chosen for it. And Kurtzman co-wrote it.

That's a good point.

Would be hilarious if Pike was the Discovery Captain for S2 and Kirk is the Captain for S3.

What’s also interesting is no news of adult Spock casting has also been leaked. So either CBS is very good at security (not likely) or they will give him “Norm’s wife Vera from Cheers” threatment.
I'm guessing that the plotline featuring Pike and the Enterprise is that Spock has either been kidnapped or gone rogue again (as always for a good cause, which will be revealed later), and that is why the Enterprise has sought out Discovery and sent a distress call, because they know Burnham and Sarek are on board. And it's possible Amanda might even get picked up or join up with Discovery, since they were on their way to Vulcan.

That way they can have Spock play a role in events of the second season (which they said would happen in some way) without having to recast the adult character, or at least putting it off for a while before they finally find him.

I don't know about Quinto's availability or willingness to appear, if the rights issues for him to do so are worked out, or if the DSC showrunners would even want him to appear or would prefer to keep a divide between the show and the Kelvinverse. It would make a cool Comic-Con announcement, but I doubt it will happen. They'll probably cast someone else in the role.

Or they'll just avoid the issue altogether by having Spock rescued off screen or only seen in silhouette or just the back of his head, but it seems to me it would be weird to have his ship, his sister, and his father present and not do at least one big "happy" reunion (or more likely awkward and cold and possibly even full of restrained hostility given the strained Sarek/Spock relationship over the years).

Child Spock will probably appear in flashbacks with Michael, Sarek, and Amanda to fill out Spock and Michael's relationship.

Which is a long-winded way of saying I have no idea what they're going to do about Spock.

They struck gold with Anson Mount as Chris Pike.

But casting a Lt. Spock that looks like a young Nimoy is going to be a very difficult task.

On the other hand, aside from satisfying our curiosity, what would be gained, publicity-wise, from announcing it now? You want people talking and thinking about the show right before Season 2 debuts, not while it's on hiatus. And why give away a major plot development--like a new captain--months in advance?

Personally, I'd want the big headlines right before the season debuts, not now.

No reason they need to, really. The three Sareks and two Saaviks have been only broadly physically similar to each other. While Quinto was a great match, the physical similarities with the rest of the Kelvin cast are passing at best.

I find it particularly interesting how Karl Urban bears little physical resemblence to McCoy but the way he talks, gestures etc. is just so McCoy.

In 2259, in an altered timeline where Marcus was in charge, not Nagura. Maybe he was hampering Marcus behind the scenes but in TAS April mentions his 5YM. So... yeah no.

The JJVerse was already a different thing before the Kelvin Incident. The ships were too big and the engineering section was already looking like a brewery.

They look alike in the sense that both Kelly and Urban have resting grumpy face, so they're both great at playing that.

I've particularly enjoyed Urban as Dredd and on Almost Human as well.

The Pine/Quinto/Urban chemistry has potential to be great, shame it hasn't been used to it's fullest potential yet, but Paramount is to blame for the Trek reboot franchise failing.

I agree. It would be the height of inappropriate inanity to have Starfleet put PrimeLorca in Discovery's center seat.

Pretty much a lock, then?

Given that this sort of thing is seriously not beyond the gimmick-prone group that used to run STD...honestly, it could be fun. Consider the massive cognitive dissonance this crew would have, trying to deal with a Starfleet standard issue straight arrow who walks and talks like Teh Evul Caption. Could be some welcome sparks. ;)

The Enterprise is supposed to be the biggest ship in the 2260’s so I imagine it’ll be about 30 meters smaller than that. I would also hope it had two nacelles since two nacelle ships just look silly.

According to who?
