Actually, Number One would be the next in the chain of command.Maybe Pike gets a temporary transfer to Discovery?
Leaving Spock in command of the Enterprise for the season, totally invalidating "The Galileo Seven" but whatever. #PrimeUniverse

True, but we don't even know if Number One will be a part of this version of Pike's Enterprise crew. She was left out of the '09 movie version and AFAIK there have been no casting announcements.Actually, Number One would be the next in the chain of command.
I may be wrong but so far there have been virtually no casting announcements except for Pike and an engineer or something like that. I could definitely see her still being on the ship.True, but we don't even know if Number One will be a part of this version of Pike's Enterprise crew. Not necissarily, considering how often the Enterprise in TOS was involved in diplomatic missions, time travel missions in the Sol system and of course war missions. I don't think explaining the location of the Enterprise is too hard anyway, considering that the Klingon war probably made it necessary for Pike's five year mission to be interrupted.Pike's 5 year mission in deep space seems to be abandoned or over if Enterprise is this close to home.
According to some books he was, but I'm not sure if something like that was ever canon. Was Pike even on a five year mission?

Into Darkness established that the 5-Year missions were a new thing, and Kirk's Enterprise was the first ship chosen for it. And Kurtzman co-wrote it.
It's the only on screen reference to when they began, so it's certainly relevant, if not conclusive. That doesn't mean anything.
Yes, the people who made "Lethe", essentially a prequel to Zachary Quinto-Spock's LLaFU to the Vulcan Science Academy in the '09 movie and have borrowed most of their visuals from said movie series, take no inspiration from them at all. That doesn't mean anything.
