Still No DSC Casting Announcement for New Captain?

Nice catch.
I'm guessing it's #1, they'll be a crew adrift without a Captain. I can see that as a theme.

I can't see that ship going without a captain for long, even if they just stick Saru in the chair on a temp basis. They're trying to be all mysterious about this, and it's gonna end up blowing up in their faces if whoever ends up captain isn't someone we particularly want to see.

I'd be fine if it's Saru or Number One, be mildly interested if it's Garth of Izar, will roll my eyes if it's Burnham, flip a damn table if it's Prime Lorca, Emperor Georgiou or Pike/Spock. (And laugh my ass off if it's Section 31's new agent, Captain Killy.)

My personal theory is that Alan Van Sprang's Section 31 Agent Leland will be posing as a Starfleet officer and be Disco's captain. Yeah, I know, the shady officer commanding the ship was already done twice in season 1, but I can easily see something similar being pulled off again, difference being this time the audience is in on the captain's true identity.

Besides, so far Disco's command has been assigned to a confessed murderer and an evil emperor. Starfleet doesn't seem to care who they hand their most important asset over to.

Actually, Number One would be the next in the chain of command.
True, but we don't even know if Number One will be a part of this version of Pike's Enterprise crew. She was left out of the '09 movie version and AFAIK there have been no casting announcements.

I may be wrong but so far there have been virtually no casting announcements except for Pike and an engineer or something like that. I could definitely see her still being on the ship.

I suspect that whatever happens with the Enterprise will at least delay them getting their new Captain, I'm guessing that is why new Captain was on Vulcan in the first place, narratively. Until then, Saru carries on acting up.

I'm good with the Enterprise getting badly damaged and needing months back at Earth for a refit.

Pike's 5 year mission in deep space seems to be abandoned or over if Enterprise is this close to home.

I'm good with Anson Mount/Pike being the Discovery Captain for the season. My only concern is they'll go a bit too far with the references to The Cage in order to validate STD's existence in "Prime" Star Trek.... but meh.

Prime Lorca would still be the best choice narratively.

Saru would be terrible, and boring. Wouldn't be a very entertaining long term Captain, no presence, but the awkward mask doesn't do him much favours.

Not necissarily, considering how often the Enterprise in TOS was involved in diplomatic missions, time travel missions in the Sol system and of course war missions. I don't think explaining the location of the Enterprise is too hard anyway, considering that the Klingon war probably made it necessary for Pike's five year mission to be interrupted.

Into Darkness established that the 5-Year missions were a new thing, and Kirk's Enterprise was the first ship chosen for it. And Kurtzman co-wrote it.
