That has never been 100% true, even in Mirror, Mirror. Remember the Halkens were peaceful in both universes.

You're joking, but I won't be shocked if there's some connection to her "allergies" mentioned in her first appearance. Maybe her uniform isn't made of the same material as the others, allowing the spore to survive and be harvested in sufficient quantities for one last jump home.

I keep saying I don’t want Saru to be captain. But every time he is in that captains role he nails it. He has such a calming influence over the crew when I think we thought of him originally as showing the opposite. The part where he says to Burnham “my friend” his whole character arc comes full circle. I think it was well done.

And I still think .. especially after the little flub on after trek regarding his last show ... PU Lorca will eventually be found.

Agreed and would mind seeing him permanent captain. However my concern there is how it will work narritively and this is nothing against his character.

A non-human permanent captain creates from narritive issues since typically the captain is the role the audience relates to the most and kind of the eye of the viewer on what is going on. Having that view be from an alien perspective could make it tougher for the audience to relate. Now it could be the plan is to keep with Michael and have Saru Captain and Michael as the "eye of the viewer" but honestly I think doing that hasn't worked well in season 1. Lorca still became the main focus of the show.

It could be done but it presents from tricky issues from a writing standpoint to have a non-human captain.

There was no reason for the damage to the Mycellian Network to end all life in the entire multiverse. That is just raising the stakes to absurd levels. I think the stakes still would have been high enough if the destruction of the Mycellian Network meant that Discovery would be forever stuck in the MU.

The captains haven't been the focus of this series so I don't think that's a concern. Why not have an alien captain?

Regardless of Burnham's heroics, she's still been court martialed and it would be a stretch for her to end up captain.

The Saru-Burnham dynamic has been a great thread through the show so far - she started out as his superior, he resented Georgiou seemed to favour her over him. Now he's the captain.

It'll be interesting to see how he reacts to Mirror Georgiou.

Well, Stamets could simply be wrong about that.

But raising the stakes makes it impossible to use this as a reset button for removing the spore-jumping from the Trek continuity ("the mushrooms are dying and we can do nothing about it"), which is a good thing IMHO. And if the stakes weren't that high, would the heroes really consider their suicide mission at all?

We've heard nothing about the true ISS Discovery. Could they have just been in another region of the MU away from all the happenings of USS Disco?

I have to disagree here. If the Discovery had blown up the Emperor's ship, killed anyone on board and destabilzed a foreign government only to go home, that would have been incredibly selfish and un-Trek like

The show could've easily been written in such a way where that ship is kablooied for a much less selfish reason.

Maybe something related to MU voq and their faction, would have given us more time with MU voq and Michael.

Either way I have to agree. The ship so big it can destroy planets and the network will implausibly destroy all life ever.

That's real shark jumping right there.

I thought it was a key moment in the Saru/Burnham relationship when, after expressing some understandable skepticism that they had all been fooled about Lorca's true identity, with only a little bit of convincing from Stamets, Saru accepted Michael's story and leapt to her rescue first and then to her assistance in executing their plan to save the network and by extension the universe(s).

Just in the episode before he was still expressing how he wished that he was receiving these instructions from Lorca instead of Burnham, and he had every reason to be doubtful and wary because once again she was being put in the position of essentially betraying their captain, yet when push came to shove he backed her play and was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

I think she's fully regained the trust of the crew, and her new captain. Though who knows what effect bringing back MU Georgiou and the timejump into the bleak future where "they saw a map today, oh boy, the Klingon army had just won the war" will have on them? Bringing back a warped version of the captain so many of them admired and using her to further twist the Federation's values in order to fight back against the Klingons might make them resent Burnham again after they just got duped by Lorca.

This actually gives me hope, that we don't see the Discovery traveling back in time for a resolution but they will deal with the situation there, nine month ahead. I really hope they will not go down with a reset button ending.

Frankly I'm very much of the opinion that Lorca was originally supposed to be S31 and not Terran. I was really hoping the Mirror Universe "hints" were just a red herring (the scars on the back, the jump in episode 9, Not remembering some event in the past). It wasn't until Episode 11 that they really telegraphed it super hard though. (The light is duller here duuur, Lorca's smirk)

The thing is, the Mirror Universe doesn't really gel with Lorca. If he was this crazy racist xenophobe, why was he working with Saru and respected him? At no point is it shown that Lorca is racist until this episode where he becomes a Space Hitler. For most of the season they just coded him as largely a competent, professional wartime captain, not a Mirror Universe sociopath.

Honestly, I thought much higher of the writers than I should have. I didn't want to believe Mirror Universe Lorca because if they did both Ash/Voq and Mirror Universe Lorca, then they would be bigger hacks than I could imagine, but no, it was exactly that.

I'm not a fan of S31, but I would have preferred it (or Starfleet Intellegence) over Mirror Universe Lorca. S31 fits the character, Mirror Universe doesn't. The Lorca this episode was nothing like the Lorca seen in previous ones.

Is the lone green spore used to go to the arctic zone of some planet and create the spore fortress of sporitude?

Am sadly no closer to figuring out where Season 2 is going. Probably a Tilly/Spore standalone in there somewhere I would guess though. Or maybe that's its own arc. No idea. And I like that. I, like Phlox, like surprises.

And I really never saw the "Mirror Georgiou in our universe" coming. Good surprise there.
