I think the idea that everything is "backwards" in an alternate universe is a bit overplayed. I like it better when it creates twists in characters, not always polar opposites.

Maybe in such a brutal empire, its more neutral because it's pretty merit based.

If you can kill better, you're higher up. And maybe some women are just better at killin'
The whole push for mirror universe episodes happened way too early in the shows timeline IMHO. The focus on the MU concept and the neato factor rather than the characters and their interactions and relationships with others, I think, is a mistake. A mirror universe would have served the franchise better if introduced in the second or third season, after the characters and relationships have been established / explored.

You are reading my posts all wrong. I dont find Tilly or Burnham sexy at all so short outfits are pointless on them. I want them to dress as canon dictates, not dress unisex to appease snowflakes. Please dont paint me as some kind of sleaze. Thank you.
appease the worst type of moaner, the SJW

Drop the 'SJW'/'snowflake' comments please.

On a different topic, personal remarks about actresses' looks (or actors, for that matter) are not going to become a trend here. This is to discuss a TV show, not the dermatology of its cast members. Please all take note.

Wow! What a great episode! The tension was so high in sickbay between Tyler and Dr. Culber I'd completely forgotten it was directed by Jonathan Frakes! I guess that goes to show just how hamstrung production staff were in the Berman era.

Captain Killy was just adorable. "Hey! What the h- what the h- what the HECK? HOLD YOUR HORSES!" "Let's not keep these assholes waiting!"

Also wasn't expecting the Tyler reveal to happen this episode. I figured they'd stretch it out a few more episodes.

So, when are we going to discover that Captain Lorca is actually Mirror Lorca? Would make sense given his unorthodox (to the Federation) approach to war, and his penchant for sleeping with a phaser under his pillow :)

Yeah, I get that, but fundamentally, the Mirror Universe is supposed to be horrifying to us (or maybe campy, depending upon your pleasure). Either way, just hewing to modern social norms in this one particular area seems a bit odd. Though of course if all the hatred of "other" is poured into aliens, it makes sense that human differences are given less import.

Regarding the apparent equality of genders and races in the Mirror Universe, my impression of the MU is that within the Empire, violence and power are the supreme judge, not variations of gender or race among humans. If you can fight and kill your way to the top, that's what matters. Their bigotry and domination seems more focused on non-humans.

But, Discovery IS canon, and it has shown us that the women do not wear short skirts. So, what's the problem?

It’s only been one episode, but so far the MU is Discovery is a bit tamer (not by a whole lot) compared to ENT and TOS

I liked that there was at least a token nod to explaining the differences between people in the context of the society in which the Terran Starfleet exists - a sort of permanent state of fear and oppression breeding out all compassion and decency.

............
I literally just sold my PS4 in November, and got an XBOX

and I'm sooooooooooooooooo regretting that.
I got an Xbox One as a Christmas gift a few years ago, and while I appreciate it (as I do all of my gifts), it turns out all of the games I like to play? PS4.

As much as I like Mirror episodes the concept of a Terran empire is laughable, yeah humans subjugate stronger, more advanced than ourselves Andorians, Klingons, Vulcans and telepathic Betazoids in the 22nd century. They must have drugged them with heroin or something. A mirror universe controlled by feral Vulcans makes more sense.
If they find the time to explain how humanity did it, that would interest me but I bet they won't.

Burnham - how did they manage to subjugate so many species in so short a time?
Mirror Sarek (a secret rebel who helps them home) - We were bombarded with music over subspace from an ancient Terran musical composer, I believe his name was Mozart. The human on the ISS Cochrane promised to stop once they had our complete surrender. It was a very effective method.

They still have to be careful. If they keep killing off fans' favorites, people will stop watching as they'll feel it might to pointless to continue watching.

Yeah, Game of Thrones never recovered from killing off Ned Stark.

It's the inevitable result of legalized marijuana.
