I guess that Dean has seen Temple of Doom. The bug scene in that movie really freaked me out. It still does.

Dean and Sam should have had the collector on a rope system. They needed to pull him back over the stones until they were sure all the darts were used up. Otherwise, I have an image of Dean and Sam walking into the room smugly and just getting destroyed by back-up darts.

This was a fun episode. Loved it.

I am glad Alice survived... maybe she can be Charlie 2.0.

I have noticed since last season that guest characters seem to have a higher chance of survival than all the other seasons. I like this... the more survivors, the bigger the SUPERNATURAL universe feels.

Who knows... the Winchester Gospels may actually become real.

I'm hoping (irrationally) that all those people will come back to take part in some sort of grand final battle--showing up en masse to support the Winchesters as they save the planet one last time, thus making the Winchester Gospels known to all.

    (yeah, I know.. )

^ Interesting, that bit about a recurring role...I've read many an article on this that recalls the usual fate of recurring female characters on this show, and one must wonder whether this will be Charlie 2.0 or if an evil fate awaits her by this year's finale.

(And speaking of actors' spouses...wouldn't it be nice to see Genevieve Padalecki again?)

Regarding Genevieve, I doubt that will happen. Yes, SUPERNATURAL has recast actors and actresses over the years for different roles, but they were always one-offs. Genevieve was a major recurring role for the entire 4th season, and she even had a part as his real wife in "THE FRENCH MISTAKE".

Well, that was more or less a standalone episode, but a bit different from the usual case. In this one, the boys were manipulated by the latest Crossroads Demon into pulling a Mission: Impossible-style heist in exchange for a locator spell specifically designed for Nephilim (in the process of this we learned that the Queen of Sheba was a Nephilim, which is something I hope they follow up on). This turned out to be an error in judgment, and they backed out of the deal, but the locator spell was lost and the eccentric immortal man who had leverage over the Crossroads Demon lost his life as well. The Crossroads Demon didn't fare any better, luckily, but that old man was an interesting character, and it was a shame to see him die. The sole survivor of this mess was the girl who had sold her soul to the Crossroads Demon, which was nice, but we never really learned her story.

No sign of Cass, Jack, Mary, or Lucifer in this one, but I think we'll finally see Mary again next week.

That would have been funny. It would have been the end of the show, but it would have been funny. :rommie:

And the latest actor to be interviewed in AV Club's ongoing Random Roles series is.... Jim Beaver.

Not in love with tonight's show...on the one hand Jack was *epic* with his confidence and newfound mastery over his powers. (Plus someone actually said "Apocalypse World" in dialogue...pretty sure the first time that term has been said out loud.)

But on the other...this felt like it was three episodes crammed into one, with some of the same flaws as we had in the season 11 finale (remember we had Lady Toni taking up screentime for no real reason at the expense of the good stuff we should've had?). We had a rather obvious build-up to Wayward Sisters (which frankly felt shoehorned in), we had the angels pursuing Jack, and we had the Apocalypse World storyline, and none of them were really handled that well. They should've split this up into two episodes and developed some of the storylines a little better. That strategy worked really well at the end of last season, with the Men of Letters and Lucifer storylines each being given their own episodes.

That said, this turned out pretty much like I was predicting...the attempt to rescue Mary would go awry, and Sam and Dean would wind up stranded in the wrong alternate world. (Dare we call it...Jurassic World?) I can't say I thought much of the way the angel storyline manifested...normally I'm all about including a Heaven storyline but this felt wrong, especially that whole business of them breaking the warding at the end. Didn't we establish that to break angel warding would take the Spell of Gathering plus the power of an archangel? Or is this just another example of discarded canon?

I thought the angel "de-warding" was a bit weird but I liked that the episode moved along at a good clip. We're getting a lot of set-up for the spin-off but also getting things into gear. However, "Evil-Jurassic World" feels like Purgatory , part 2. I hope that's not the case; unfortunately, we will have to wait until Jan 18th to find out.

Well, that was certainly a classic cliffhanger that I never expected to see on Supernatural-- that was one hell of a big footprint. :rommie: Maybe they're going to show us what The Mist should have been like.....

I like this Dreamwalker idea and how Jack can use it to reach other dimensions, although it's not easy, even for him. And we seem to have met another one of the Wayward Sisters. Now I'm looking forward to it even more. Looks like half of their team will have super powers of some kind.

And, man, these Angels are brilliant. They're concerned that the number of Angels is being depleted, yet they seem to be doing everything in their power to destroy themselves. They lost about another half dozen this week. I wonder if Asmodeus is aware of this-- although the Angels are such assholes, I really don't see what difference it makes. I'm beginning to think that the whole Angels-Demons thing is a metaphor for contemporary politics.

A bit misleading as virtually everyone including male characters on the series bites it sooner than later frequently. The longest lived character outside the brothers is Sheriff Jodie Mills who is getting her own spin off with 5 other female leads, 3 of which had several recurring appearances on the series.

I wonder if all the sane angels are in the Big Empty by now.

I have feeling Cas is going to want Jack to help bring Angels in the Big Empty back. That would solve their numbers problem.

I assume every (literally) soulless creation is in there at this point. Whatever did not go to heaven, hell, or purgatory or still exists on Earth must be in there.

Angels and demons are in the Big Empty. I wonder if that's where Reapers go, too.

One thing... creatures that die in Purgatory. Do they end up in the Big Empty, or do they just reanimate in a different part of Purgatory, dying over and over again?

Seems like I read someplace that it's the latter, what goes to Purgatory stays there (unless it's human of course). I'm not sure where so I can't defend it or vouch for its accuracy--but at least one person's fuzzy recollection says you're right in the second half. :)

For some reason, I thought that when you died in purgatory, you were just snuffed out -- which was why Benny 's sacrifice was so touching. But I could be wrong; it gets hard to keep up with it all.

Just occured to me. In Apocalypse World, those giant spires coming up from the ground... could those be giant angel blades, pointy end up?
