Spoilers Supernatural Season 13

I liked the ensemble. Jodi, Donna, Claire, Kaia (the dreamcatcher?), the witch's granddaughter (Patience?), but who's the sixth person with the dark hair?

^Alex. She is the girl Jodi took in first, the girl who vampires kidnapped and used as bait to bring in victims.

And Patience is the granddaughter of Missouri, who was a psychic, not a witch.

Given the reveal of alt-Kaia at the end, it makes sense that that particular world is the only one she can access or see on her own.

It would be an interesting series, as brand new kinds of monsters can be made.

Well, that was pretty good, despite the usual pilot awkwardness. I had a strange feeling during the episode that the hooded figure would turn out to be Dream Girl somehow, so the only surprise was that I was right. This is good, because it means the actress will be in the series, but it's bad because I liked the Dream Girl character. But this raises some questions. Is the hooded figure really Mirror Universe Dream Girl, or is she a shape shifter or body snatcher? And if there's an alternate Dream Girl, are there alternates of everyone else, too?

I hope the alternate universe is a regular part of the storyline in Wayward Sisters, because it seems like it will be pretty cool. I loved the foreshadowing of the giant skull (following the foreshadowing of the mega footprint), and then the reveal of the red-eyed giant. And it almost seemed like the giant and the hooded figure were allied somehow. The whole thing had a Wally Wood vibe for me. The creatures that came through the skinny portal had almost a post-Apocalyptic vibe, so I'm very curious what the situation is over there.

All in all, it was a nice setup for Jodie's Angels and I'm looking forward for the show to begin. Maybe they'll even figure out a way to bring back the real Dream Girl somehow-- it wouldn't be the first time.

I was disappointed when they killed Kaia, but they had a missed opportunity to make the alternate universe villain a bigger splash like Jo or Charlie or Ruby #2. I suppose Claire's vengeance is the primary reason for alternate Kaia.

Looks like Donna is back (yay!). Probably won't be commenting much tonight....flu. Bleh.

So if Wayward Sisters is going to be a female-centric Supernatural, will they unceremoniously kill off every recurring male character that the fans like? :D

One can only hope.

I dug Wayward Sisters and will definitely watch it if it ever materializes as an actual show.

I really hope they keep up with the multiverse thing. It's a nice way to generate future plot lines and introduce new shit for everyone to do. I know they have a Scooby Doo thing planned, I wonder if this is how they get to it.

Well, this week's episode was quite disturbing. Take away the supernatural element, and I'm sure something very similar to this happens in the real world. Probably many times over. When you think of the number of unsolved missing persons cases every year....

As for the story, it unfolded well, with a couple of good Red Herrings. The creepy preacher was just a blind alley, but the goofy clerk turned out to be part of the real threat. And, of course, the FBI agent was the brother of the masked meat marketeer-- who were apparently both human, although that was not entirely made clear. But if his estimate of hidden monsters being in the millions or tens of millions is correct, that has serious implications for the future. It's really past time to resurrect the Men of Letters, organized by Hunters.

Poor Donna learned the price of having a secret identity, but this will free her up to be a regular on Wayward Sisters, I guess. Now her ex-boyfriend knows about the world of the supernatural, but what about her niece? Does she think she was just kidnapped by people out of a gory grindhouse movie, or does she know about monsters? And will she join those Wayward Sisters?

WOW! Good episode tonight. We finally get back to Cas & Luci and you-know-who is back--as expected.

So, this one is all set-up as we finally get back to the main plot(s) of the season; we get insight into how Sam still carries the burden of his run-ins with Luci, his guilt over losing track of Jack, and how the other players are gearing up for the big fight.

Best line of the night: "Someone broke his warding." And YAY for seeing Cas smite the demon instead of just stabbing it! Seems like everybody uses angel blades to do their dirty work these days, so it's great to see a good old-fashioned smiting...and he even did it open-palm like we saw all the way back in season 4, instead of the way we've seen it done since season 7 or so, the grab-the-head approach.

And was anyone else cheering during the interactions with Lucifer during the last act? I was expecting angst-filled acquiesence to Lucifer's rantings, and at one point I genuinely expected him to give up some of his grace...instead he kept fast to "no," and that final altercation with Lucifer in front of the asylum was AWESOME. "This is me learning from my mistakes," he snarled right as he stabbed the devil.

Two big questions though:
1) Where is Asmodeus? The demon...Dipper? Really?...seemed to imply that he's off someplace doing something. What could be more important than Cas and Lucifer? What "big plans" does he have for Cas? (And where does Ketch fit in?)
2) I also wonder just how long Lucifer is going to stay de-powered. It's starting to feel like a contrived plot device, and tonight's show underscores that point I think. If he'd been at full power I can't imagine any amount of warding holding him. So what's the fix? Considering the angels apparently think Jack can create more of them, my hunch is that Lucifer's own son will have to fix him. The question is...will he do it? (I suspect this very question will be the central plot of the season finale.)

Lucifer seemed to imply that his grace would heal itself (as it was only partially drained). Alternatively, though, he might be planning to steal other angels' grace. Alternate Michael would probably be his first choice, though I could also see him going after Jack if the boy tries to become good. Jack's grace might be the most compatible.

Well, it was certainly a surprise to see Rowena back again, but a welcome one. They've killed off far too many cool characters on this show. She may make a good substitute for Crowley, as it's unrealistic to keep Lucifer in that role for any amount of time. And somehow I don't think he's going to be so buddy-buddy with Cass after being skewered by Cass's Angel blade-- and I also doubt that he's going to die any time soon.

And Rowena has such beautiful blue eyes now. The scenes with her and Sam sharing their horrifying PTSD after seeing Lucifer's face (Hey, Lucifer, does your face hurt?) were very nicely done and I hope that's her genuine motivation and not just a trick-- it would certainly make her that much more interesting, and also a more viable long-term character, avoiding the Crowley Syndrome issue of why such an evil character would spare, let alone pal around with, the Winchester boys. Crowley's near reversion to humanity didn't seem quite adequate justification.

The actual antagonists this episode were kind of lame and irritating-- although I got a kick out of their magic-immune Zombie Mom-- but they were just a MacGuffin to get the spellbook in play and the vital page into Rowena's hot little hands. The boys still have the rest of the book, which no doubt contains the means to stop her once she goes off the rails.

Hopefully next week will see the return of Mom Winchester and Jack-- or at least the Scooby Gang.

Okay so there was a moment tonight that was UNQUESTIONABLY meta. Must share:

I won't spoil the circumstances, but there came a moment when Asmodeus grabbed a chicken wing, sniffed it, and was utterly repulsed.

GOLD. Undoubtedly the creators giving us a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgment of the similarities between Asmodeus and Col Sanders.

And about tonight's stinger...I KNEW IT!!!!

(Also...there was a plot development tonight that my fanfic predicted months ago. Again...I KNEW IT!!!)

OK..weird beginning but it sure finished strong. Mrs. Ackles definitely has acting chops; I like her character a lot. It's interesting to see the angels and their social order. The button-pusher clearly wasn't happy in heaven.

....And as soon as Asmodeus said, "We have one," I started thinking, "Oh please, please, please let it be him!"

*SQUEE!*

LOTS of stuff happening in this episode -- very glad that the major plots are finally rolling along. About that last scene:I don't see Chuck allowing that to stand, even if he is in absent-father mode.
