I'm just saying the message gets played out on the ship's loudspeakers, not on internal sensor loudspeakers.

Meant to get back to this one too. I don't see what you mean here about editing. There is no cutaway to Discovery when they set up the first device, and they don't have their communicators out. So how can the sound we are hearing be coming from Discovery?

I only just got around to watching this now. I was trying to put it off as long as possible so I'd have something to look forward to until January. I caved today.

Wow. Not only is this the first DSC ep I've rated a 10, it's the only DSC ep that I have rated higher than 8.

Oh. My. God.

Goosebumps, tears, and smiles abound. I can't fucking wait for the rest of this season.

Wasn't the Buran destroyed when just the ship of the dead was able to cloak?

I’m not share if any specific time was specified for the destruction of the Buran. It was after the battle of the binaries, so there may be more than one cloak-able ship.

I hope it's not against rules but I found this on Memory Alpha. Take it for what it's worth:

"About one month into the Federation-Klingon War, the Buran was ambushed and boarded by Klingons. Knowing his crew would be tortured and executed on Qo'noS, Lorca elected to destroy his ship and crew. It's hard to imagine that humans and this version of Klingons would even be capable of reproducing together at all. Even TNG said "the DNA is compatible, with a fair amount of help."

It's the surplus to requirements... or maybe not, lol..... just a minute lost my train of thought... yes it's the mismatch of bits and pieces that I did not know existed before with Klingons. Twice the bang for your buck. I do not imagine Tom Paris being overly attracted to L'Rell though. Who knows?

Why would the first jump be labeled as zero? If I take 10 steps, it's steps 1 thru 10, not 0 thru 9.

In the software world it's very common to start counting with zero.

The specific time doesn't really matter because the show has been pretty clear on the fact that Lorca was already on Discovery before Kol ever went back to claim the ship of the dead. So there can't have been cloaks at the destruction of the Buran.

Very good episode. Only real flaws were the talking sensors on a stealth mission and the Klingons not killing Burnham immediately on the bridge.

Voq is Tyler, but Tyler does not know. Voq had to give up everything, remember. Still some wriggle room, as the Klingons mentioned he was cast aside.

Lorca is NOT 'Mirror Lorca' or anything like it.

If they are in a parallel universe, Georgiou could still be alive.

The micro jumps of the spore drive in combat were bad as hell. It must be nerfed, too powerful.

Rewatched and the intercom is definitely calling for Cadet Decker.

Buran was destroyed between the pilot and the second episode, and cloaking device is a Sarcophagus-only peculiarity, until the klingon whose name I dn't remember take the Sarcophagus and starts sharing the cloacking technology with other klingon houses.

Maybe someone has another example, but the only time I ever remember anyone coming even close to implying Klingons were in any way stronger than humans

But what was it with the camera panning away from the exploding Klingon ship to see Burham looking away from the screen? Didn't make sense to me. Lost some of the grandeur of the moment.

Naah, she isn't looking away. She's looking at where Tyler stood, just moments before - it's Tyler who cannot stand to see the Klingon ship destroyed and skulks away, surprising Burnham who is merely glancing at something to her right (perhaps Saru) and notices from the corner of her eye that Tyler is missing.

True enough - it's just the second sensor that might be speaking to Saru instead of Burnham.

Then again, it's not as if the heroes would have a choice between a stealthy and a non-stealthy sensor. Perhaps smashing the display screen and ripping out the loudspeaker would have taken more time than figuring out a place where a noisy and silent sensor would be equally unlikely to be discovered?
