I meant this as a reply to mickmike. Sorry for messing up the thread.

That's ok. It can take a while to figure out the reply/quote functions. If you need help with that stuff don't be a fraid to ask someone.

In response to the crew of discovery being together a while and seemingly not caring for each other. I don't think there is any evidence to support that. As I said the space between episode 3 and 4 is less than a day. When we do see the crew, they are either in a battle drill or actual combat. The audience has only been observing the crew's behaviour during a brief moment of time. What sort of crew interactions do you want to see?

Again I ask, how is the aloofness of the crew any different than the aloofness displayed by other star trek characters? And again, what is Trekness?

Kira hated starfleet, Odo hated everyone. In Voyager Chakotay didn't like Tom paris initially and he was generally aloof to Tuvok. Hell, even Picard was initially aloof with his entire crew. Aloof picard lasted until the third season.

Kira had a reason which was clearly stated (the occupation), Chakotay had a clear reason to hate Paris (Maquis) and Picard's aloof situation is called "acting". McCoy didn't like Spock, but it was written dif

The STD crew are all aloof to each other for no clear reason YET(except Tilly and that's portrayed as a slight character flaw) . Yes, we know why they don't like Michael but what's up with everyone else? The motivation was clear in all the examples from the other Treks you mention.

Everyone considers a mutineer and criminal and her reputation has spread throughout starfleet. Hence why no one on the crew likes burnham. That is pretty clearly explained in episode 3.

You still haven't answered my questions. What sort of Character interactions to do you require and what in your opinion is trekness? If you're going to raise points for discussion on a public forum, expect people to disagree with you and want you to justify your point of view.

It would be cool if someone was a friend, but I dunno who it would be even if you discount people with obvious personality/ideological conflicts. Stamets is Tilly's boss, so that's a no go. I guess I could see Saru and Stamets getting along, but Stamets isn't even in the command structure (he's just a science officer) so I don't know how much they really interact in general.

I agree! Some people who are friends would help -- a relationship of some type. The closest thing to friendship has been Saru: "You were always a good officer, until you weren't" (that's a great line)

One thing I will say after my rewatch is this:

Yes, Landry's behavior and death is dumb...but it became clearer to me that she was under tremendous pressure in this episode. You can see that she's definitely a "Lorca worshiper" in a way already, and now she's portrayed as being the primary point of his disappointment when the battle drill fails.

I think she was putting pressure on herself to get a win and please Lorca again. It drove her to the behavior with the creature.

It doesn't excuse the stupid...but it makes it a little less so.

I didn't read 66 pages of comments, so probably whatever I say here has already been said but...

WTF is with the spores. So now we can be anywhere anytime?

I liked the Klingon twist, but man all the stupidity irked me....
So T'Kumva first spawned a war.
Everybody went off to fight a war for 6 months, while T'Kumva's ship sat there (stupidly I may add) with tech that nobody (Klingon nor Federation) had? Nobody bothered to destroy it or take it?

I mean, who is leading this war from the Klingon side? They hear a rallying cry then 24 houses go over independently to fight a war? Yet they have have structured borders, and tactics with no leader?

Obviously attacking the planet that supplies 40% of the federation's dilithium crystals was a coordinated strategic move. It's just odd how it all fell together.

Maybe I missed it, or it may make sense later, but man it was odd

Excellent question. Probably some great-great-great second cousin twice removed of Worf.

Another gaping plot hole. And by "hole", I mean chasm.

Not really. We know that the High Council exists because we've seen them. Also, it seem like Kol has taken a leadership role

So far Future Guy screwing with the Klingon Empire using the Suliban to try to start a civil war made more sense and was more thrilling than this subplot has been.

Look, can I just be completely honest with y'all and say I'm still stuck on the Klingons eating Georgiou.

Been four days and I'm still not over it and I'm not sure I ever will be tbh.

What constitutes "interaction"?

I'd like to see more friendships or a relationships of some type soon. Conversation happens differently when friends talk vs. when strangers or colleagues talk and that's more revealing of character, and therefore develops character. The relationship doesn't even have to be friendly (think Quark and Odo in DS9) to help provide interest. I'm hoping this develops. Michael / Saru is interesting.... I think it developed much quicker on previous Treks and with a shorter season I hope they speed it up.
