News Kurtzman: Setting Up Season Two of Star Trek: Discovery

Season One of Star Trek: Discovery is focused on war, said Alex Kurtzman in a TrekMovieinterview; and now the focus is on what to do for a second season, if commissioned.
So much for the "insider information" from before the premiere that a second season had already been green-lit.

Even though I've been somewhat critical of what we've seen so far, I really hope they get a second season. I really want to see new Star Trek that's not about war.

I hope season 2 is "band of brothers" in space. Just to see everyone hate on it. That would be funny.

Now that I've thought about it I'm very happy with more arcs either season long or lasting for several episodes for season 2. Also I like how they are kinda doing an arc with little standalone stories inside that. Enterprise did that poorly, that awful episode where they became aliens in the beginning of the Xindi arc, but it could work with Discovery.

I'd love to see season 2 as a cavalcade of Burnham making mistakes: leaving a book about Chicago Mobs of the Twenties on a planet, dropping John Gill off somewhere by mistake, triggering a long-dormant planet killer and send it into the middle of Federation Space.

Travis' parents cargo ship, the Horizon, left it there (Travis' own personal copy actually) before the Romulans hacked their ship and flew it into the systems star before they could leave.

Why are so many of you talking as though you've already seen all of season 1 and not liked it much? Talk about jumping the phaser! Which... come to think of it, should be called the Burham move, he he. If I'm being mischievous.

This season is about the Federation being at war with the Klingons. Next season will be about the Klingons being at war with the Federation, told from their perspective! :) Actually I am also thinking a possible "Sliders" type of season were they explore alternate universes. This mirror universe idea is starting to sound more possible all the time. I just watched a "Collider Video" segment from Comic Con in New York were the word Mirror was mentioned in connection to the Klingons according to the guy making the video.

Because being patient and having faith isn't nearly as much fun as immediately declaring something as crappy so you can spend the next 3 months challenging people on the internet.

From T'Mushmouth's opening soliloquy, it was obvious this season would be about war. I really wish TPTB had chosen a different course. There's enough war going on all over the place that I'd really rather not have it blunder into my entertainment, but there it bloody is. So after we slog through the war from the Federation's perspective, you think it would be fun to see it from the Klingon side? What would be more fun is to ram a sharp stick into my heart, because I'd only have to go through it once.

If they actually do a Mirror Universe episode, they'd better come up with something off the charts in originality. Because DS9 broke the mirror for me and made it silly as hell.
