I hope they change the makeup for future episodes, because Mary Wiseman seemed to be having an adverse reaction to whatever they are currently using in her closeups.

That's an interesting conspiracy theory.

The reality is if fans and audiences are this divided, it's not 'well liked.' We will have to see how the next weeks play out before STD's reputation is cemented.

I like the RT audience polling because it's linked to real social media profiles of all of the people who vote (unlike IMDB). So you can see that a lot of the people who dislike the show are real viewers without an agenda in play.
RT is trolled and review bombed all the time. You know what MY final arbiter of something is?

"Did I enjoy watching it?"

If the above answer is "Yes" - then I continue to watch and I could care less what others think. I'm not watching it for THEIR enjoyment. (and over the decades I've found something in every Star Trek incarnation that I've enjoyed enough to keep me watching - with the exception of Star Trek: Voyager, but that's me. :))

The fact is: You don't care for it; so you're going to look for every review/comment or poll that supports your view and tout it.

There IS NO 'correct/universally accepted incarnation of Star Trek and there never will be. Each has in the past - as ST: D will - find its audience and have people who like it (including new fans who have never really watched or been interested in previous incarnations - again I know that's hard for some existing fans to believe); and if there are enough that CBS continues to see profit from merchandising and CBSAA subs, etc. they'll produce more episodes. If not, they won't.

In the end, CBS doesn't care why you subscribe (IE - if you sub to CBSAA to watch every episode so you can proclaim: "NOT TREK!" <--- They make the same money off you that they do for a fan who says: "VERY TREK!"

You want to know what will happen if Discovery doesn't do well because a bunch of butt-hurt fans boycott it? Star Trek will disappear as a television franchise permanently.

Meh. The only positives in this episode were the beam weapon(finally) and the near tulip chairs in the mess hall. The rest was just so so. Did anything even really happen story wise?

I'm out guys. I'll check back when season 1 is done to see if I missed anything.

Not really, the IP is too valuable for that.

At most we will probably see Discovery quietly regulated to the same never talked about and dubiously canon corner as Voyagers Threshold and in a few years a new Star Trek show put in place to replace it.
