I think there's too many cooks on the show. Every other series had a knock out of the park first episode, except for this one, sadly.

I tend to think everyone needs to acknowledge this is a reboot. Sure it has some sounds, and nods towards what came before. But it is its own thing, in its own universe.

I didn't think it was terrible. It wasn't great, either. Very strong performance from Sonequa Martin-Green. The Klingon stuff mostly left me cold. As did a lot of the "humor".

The ending felt very sudden, even for a cliffhanger. I guess because it kind of just went to commercial. It left me very confused.

Honestly, I just wish they were prettier to look at. I realize that's not the best way of thinking about it because some things should look uncomfortably alien, but it's also not fun.

Yep. If you want to see the second part of the season premiere, you'll have to subscribe to CBS All Access. Any folks who don't just got all they're going to get.

Lol, I didn't realize it was over at first. I'm glad there's a free trial, because I don't think I'd pay for it based on this episode.

I bet we don't get an explanation this season. We will get one when the producers realized they screwed up and should not have drastically changed the look.

Both my boys seem interested in watching the second part. So I guess that's a win.

I agree. And right now, their ships have the same problem as the Transformers in the Michael Bay movies - too many greebles and not enough distinct lines and colors to get a good handle on what I'm looking at.

    This is awesome.

I find it really interesting that only two of the main cast members - Sonequa Martin-Green and Doug Jones - are actually in the premiere. I don't think that's ever happened in Star Trek before.

Encounter at Farpoint was pretty bad though.

Visually it's mostly good. I love the ship, the viewscreen, and ready room. Otherwise it looks like a video game.

The episode itself was pretty damn boring until the last 5 minutes.

What is there to love about it?

    Lens flare (tm) ala JJ...?

Titling the camera as if that makes it more stylish?

    Boring exposition with the neo-Klingons?

I really don't see much point to this one.

It wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t great.
Won’t get to watch part 2 until tomorrow. Hoping there’s some improvement. Admittedly, on it’s own, this is not enough to get me to subscribe for more.

Well, I've got a subscription. Gonna wait until tomorrow night when my daughter and my brother are over to rewatch this and watch the second part, though.

It had big budget movie production values. Looked as good as the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies.

Yeeaaahh I think I have to take a break from TrekBBS right now. I just want to enjoy the show and have some fun with it. This thread is a buzzkill. Later.

I really, really, really, hope the show gets better in future episodes. I'm not a hater. I don't care about the Klingons looking funny or the series being a reboot in all but name. I just want a really, well-written show with the Star Trek name, so this franchise that I love will continue on.

Maybe when Isaacs and the Discovery show up, it'll catch its stride.
