New Phaser and Rifle Revealed

Like the design, fits with the semi-retro feel set up by the transporter room pics, and I prefer it to the Kelvinverse phasers, that was an aspect of their design I thought was weak, too much like a kid's 'space gun' toy. This looks like a sturdier weapon, sleeker than the 60s props without overdoing it, and the three emitter Cage nod is quite neat.
Digging most of the design work we've seen so far, the actual ship exterior aside.

Could this be the 'safety'? Its right above the grip, so easy to hit with the thumb.

I suspect that's the release mechanism for the Type I ... which on the original was mounted on the left side behind the Type I.

That looks incredibly uncomfortable to hold, even by the dubious standards set by previous phasers. Are you supposed to pull the trigger with your middle finger?
I've got a couple of vintage cameras that you trigger with your middle finger. Personally it doesn't look uncomfortable to me.

Ha, my apologies, but I mean, it's not going to make or break the show for me. I love TOS, I just don't feel like it's look should be used in 2017. I mean, you could definitely have throwbacks to the design while modernizing it. Like a 1967 Mustang to a 2017 Mustang.

Either way, I'm happy we're getting a new show, but as a design buff, things like that just stick out to me.
I'd prefer the phaser and comm to be an homage to the 60s rather than the bridge.

[Sulu voice] Oh my! [/Sulu Voice]

Nice continuity with the Type II and the off-center flashlight is dramatic.
