There's always the Reed Alert:If the red alert klaxons aren't kazoos. I'm not watching.
Ok maybe that's going a bit to far. I'm sure they could modify a kazoo sound so that it sounds basically the same but a bit more realistic/urgent.

Er, no, that's not what I meant.
Of course it will be Starfleet. It takes place on a Starfleet ship.
How do we know that the uniforms worn by Pike's crew were the only uniforms being used at the time? Or perhaps they were being phased out and they hadn't had a chance to get the new ones yet?
And yes, there's the possibility that the Discovery might be a Section 31 ship, but it kinda defeats the purpose of a clandestine organization when your ship has a big "31" written on the hull.
Or maybe, just maybe, those uniforms in "The Cage" are butt ugly, and someone could come up with nicer looking uniforms in 2017 that don't look like they came from a Goodwill store in 1960?
3. It's just an excuse to take Star Trek and piss all over it again.
Did I miss something about espionage being a component of this series? I loathe Section 31 and their black tunic-ed mustache-twirling idiocy. How much I'd love it if Trek writers actually tried to figure out a way to make the better future realistic, rather than falling backward on easy, lazy, anachronistic stories....Or just have them all be civilian-dressed spies.
Personally, I think something with plaid is way past due...
I think the uniforms from "The Cage"/"The Menagerie" should definitely appear in some capacity, even if the crew of the Discovery doesn't wear them.

I don't think they SHOULD appear- but I'd get a little fanboy kick out of seeing them in the background of a Starbase crowd scene of somesuch. Same goes for TOS Klingons.
They should go with the JJ look with uniforms amd ships, just without the lense flares.
