I saw it last night and loved it. I know we never saw the Enterprise on screen all that much between Star Trek and Into Darkness, but it really hit me in the gut watching the swarm shred the ship apart. I choked up as the crew was forced to abandon ship while being taken captive by Krall. I knew going into the movie the Enterprise was going to get trashed, but watching the deflector go and then the nacelles getting torn off really sealed the deal for me. The boarding scene was top notch, as well. And was that an homage to the classic Star Trek fight music that was playing when Kirk encountered Krall on board the Enterprise? :)

I absolutely loved the design for Yorktown Station.

Sofia Boutella first came onto my radar after watching Kingman: The Secret Service, and after seeing her absolutely nail it as Jaylah, I hope we see more from her in the future (hopefully in Star Trek XIV, as well)

I did kind of see the twist about Krall/Captain Edison coming as I knew something had to have happened to the Franklin crew, and after hearing Krall call the Franklin his "old friend" I kind of figured he was the former captain (or at least a crewmember). Also, the outfit he wore kind of looked like an Enterprise-era Starfleet uniform that had been modified and enhanced over the years.

All in all I had a good time watching this, and I'd probably rank it in my top three Star Trek movies.

I watched it Saturday, and thoroughly enjoyed it for about the first 3/4s. Unfortunately, it makes the same mistake that so many other Hollywood summer blockbuster movies make: it just piles on more and more and more special effects, explosions, fights, flying debris, flying bodies, frikkin' laser beams, etc. By the time they get to the final fight between the hero and the villain, I felt completely overwhelmed and worn out. And this was in regular 2D - if I'd seen it in 3D IMAX it probably would have knocked me unconscious!

By far the best parts of the movie are the scenes where these characters interact like old friends, such as the banter back and forth between Spock and McCoy. Personally I think that's all a good Star Trek movie really needs, but it seems like Hollywood producers are afraid a movie won't get box office unless they give the audience a bad case of sensory overload.

We all knew that the Enterprise was going to be trashed yet again, but I really liked the set up when Kirk is talking with Commodore Paris (is that right?) when he says it is not the ship that can succeed but the crew. That ends up making the movie really great, watching the crew survive being stranded on the planet, and makes for some of the best character scenes we've seen in this reboot.

Seen it twice over the past couple of days and I think its great fun. Probably my favourite out of the 'Kelvin' films, but I'd have to see if a few more times to make sure.

All i can say is this. What a dumb movie, it was just like watching a bad superhero movie. Huge falls and no injuries etc.. Few good moments are not making this movie a good Trek flick. Music was bad, wooden acting, bad editing and too fast camera work. Star Trek is now "Fast Trek"

Obviously you watched a different film than I did. To each their own I guess.

Also, since when was Captain Kirk not a superhero?
I thought Captain Kirk was James Bond in space. Always going places, bedding hot women, charging right into the mouth of mortal danger and always getting out alive (except GEN, but GEN doesn't count because B&B&Moore).

NuKirk is like James Bond + Ethan Hunt (Mission Impossible).

Worst Trek movie ever imho. Seemingly endless and numbing "action" without much in the way of character development or an interesting plot. I gave it a D+. Much of it was like a videogame. Put a fork in movie Treks as far as I'm concerned. They've gone from flawed to horrible. This makes Darkness and even V look good. My only hope now is the new TV series.

I loved it. Not without its glaring plot holes, but the character interaction was spot on. I really enjoyed how every character got their time to shine, particularly Karl Urban as Bones who I felt was always underutilized when Abrams was directing. The Spock/Bones dialogues were also really great. And I really liked Jaylah, and usually I'm not a fan of new characters in the franchise. Also, there was some stunning CGI.

I still don't know why Krall and his buddies spoke a different language than English though and I've seen the film three times already. Part of me thinks that Krall was originally an alien in the first script, but they changed him to be human later leading to some plot issues. Also, why did Kirk not just shoot Krall at the end when he first catches up to him? Would have saved everyone a lot of trouble. But anyways, there was nothing that was a big enough problem to bother me. :)

^ We're left largely to infer what the effect of the alien technology Krall is using on him and his friends, but my take is that the more their systems are dependent on the alien tech to keep them alive -- and the less energy they've recently siphoned from other people to strengthen themselves -- the more they lapse into "alien" modes and thinking presumably inherited from the species that created the tech, including the use of their language.

I'm 53 and loved it.
I'm 55, and while what constitutes an action movie in Trek (and other films) has indeed changed a lot since the days of TWOK, I still have no problem with the action components of the three new Trek movies. It is "Action-Adventure" after all. If I want a lot of people sitting around a table talking about deep issues, I'll watch Charlie Rose.

Though there are nights you wish Charlie would reach across the desk and throttle his guest. Admit it.
