Snoke - speculation (spoilers)

Well for starters, Harrison Ford is coming back for Episode 8. They recently announced that EVERYONE from Episode 7 is signed for 8. He can't be a Force Ghost, so I'm assume he'll appear in flashback.

Also, in a recent interview one of the creators said the Ep8 script was pretty trippy or something like that.

And I certainly want to see those events directly. In a lot of ways, they're more important than anything that happened in TFA.

They announced that Ford was coming back in a press release either the day the movie came out or within a few after. They weren't going to let his death be that obvious.

So certain of this, are you?

What if Kylo's Force abilities are forcing Han to stick around like a Force Revenant, or... something else? Who knows? The EU is out, and nothing in canon that I'm aware of has ever explained how Force Ghosts work - so we certainly don't.

The assumption is that Episode 8 is going to be half flashbacks to Luke's ill fated Jedi Academy. During which we would see the Knights of Ren attacking the school.

I wonder if Luke lost it and cut down all the other Knights of Ren but couldn't bring himself to kill his nephew, and that's part of the reason he went into exile. He gave into the dark side killing all those emo idiots.

Neat, I like that theory. It would explain why Kylo is the only one we see in the present.

Yeah I'm 90% sure Ford will not be in Episode 8, they were just avoiding spoilers.

While I've liked the idea of Luke crossing into the dark side, without turning into a villain, from before I saw the film – somebody here shared an idea that he had crossed it to to try and bring Kylo Ren back by relating to him better. I still like that concept, but now that I've seen the film, I'm wondering what would it be if Rey were to turn to the darkness.

She's a very powerful force user, more powerful than Luke, Kylo Ren, and perhaps Anakin. She was already tempted by the dark side. She could do things the others perhaps could not. So I wouldn't be shocked if she could turn to the darkness in the second film, and then come back to the light as a positive character for the third film.

It would be one hell of a ride, and a risky experiment – if it is badly executed, it would ruin her nearly wonderful character. (And even out of character if it didn't happen for with a very carefully written justification – even with no force training, she knows well where the line not to cross lies.) But it sounds more interesting than the alternatives.

Why are people making that assumption? We know what happened - what narrative purpose does it serve?

The assumption is fueled in part by the fact that the entire cast is returning in VIII, including Harrison Ford and Max Von Sydow. Given that the latter's character got only 5 minutes of screen-time in the first, but was apparently a pivotal person in the past, it seems likely that we'll get a fleshed-out backstory for at least him.

"They" was Kathleen Kennedy, from what I recall. I doubt she'd be one to spread rumors to prevent spoilage. Besides, releasing this info after the movie is out really doesn't do much to deny Solo's death.

Well, she's not going to say the whole cast is going to come back except Harrison Ford right before the film comes out. It'd be a bit of a spoiler.

<<“There will be a handful of new cast members in Episode VIII but also all the cast members you see here tonight will be in it as well.”>>

Harrison Ford is in that picture. I don't expect Kathleen Kennedy to tell a bald faced lie to the public.

I wouldn't be shocked if she did, particularly if someone asked her a question so she was forced to give an answer one way or the other.

You mean like Ron Moore did with BSG and Starbuck? Or LOST did with multiple characters? Lying about who is and isn't coming back is a pastime of creative people.

Han Solo has a twin. Ran Solo. A bookish, nervous, bespectacled university type who moonlights as a devil-may-care interplanetary archaeologist.

You heard it here first guys.

"Clone Wars" is still canon, from what I've heard. It seems that becoming a "Force ghost" takes deliberate effort on the part of somebody strong with "The Force", with study and preparation ahead of time, rather than being something that can just happen to a person. That does raise the question of how Vader/Anakin became a "Force ghost." Perhaps Obi-wan and Yoda intervened in his last moments of life. Or perhaps he did some deep studies after Obi-Wan disappeared at death.

He probably spent a lot of time thinking about it while he was inside that giant egg thing.

Snoke is a Yuuzhan Vong equivalent in the Disneyverse. In Episode 8, Kylo Ren will learn Rey is his twin sister, Jaina.

I know one of the leading theories is that Rey is Luke's daughter, but I couldn't get the thought out of my head that she was actually Ben's sister...somehow. Maybe Leia was secretly pregnant during the time that she and Han were separated.
