The word Sith is not used in A New Hope. It was an EU thing before the Prequels, iirc.
Yeah, I recall that was used in the first novel by Lucas. I don't have the book to confirm that, so if someone could? The term "Dark Lord of the Sith" was included in written materials from the time of ANH. I cant remember if it was in the novelization, but IIRC, the radio drama used the term. They just didn't explain exactly what a "Dark Lord of the Sith" is. The later EU expanded on it.
In one of the early Marvel comics, there was an amusing scene where Vader's tie fighter came under surprise attack (or something like that), and Vader exclaimed, "By the immortal gods of the Sith!"
Kor
I agree completely. Nomark random Sith man would be a little disappointing.I'm very much in favor of Plagueis as Snoke. It makes sense from a narrative point of view.
Plagueis/Snoke would tie the trilogies together -- we would have Skywalker family contending against the same evil legacy (Plagueis and his apprentice, Sidious) through the generations. If Plagueis is responsible for the creation of Anakin -- either directly or through his apprentice Sidious -- then that means that Plagueis will face his reckoning with his "descendants." The Star Wars saga would become the story of two families doing battle for the fate of the galaxy across the generations.
That's more compelling emotionally than Snoke as some random darksider.

Well JJ has form with presenting the obvious as a mystery...I think Plagueis is so obvious a guess that it's almost certain to not be who he is.
The word "Sith" is never uttered in the OT, but it does appear in the canon novelizations of them.
I bet if he is revealed as Plagueis there's a Rey-esque vision montage thing with flashes of the prequel scene with Palpatine talking about him and maybe some new dialogue with McDiarmid like they did with Ewan McGregorI think Snoke being Darth P is a distinct possibility, although that revelation might not land beyond uber fans. I imagine 99.9% of people who went to see TFA have no idea what that name would be.
All I want is a Snoke musical number, like something out of Blue Velvet.

So are the knights of Ren going to be a thing? In episode 8 are we getting 10 Darth Vader cosplayers all attacking at once? Because they weren't really in this movie aside from a flashback cameo. So...Episode 8: Attack of the Rens?
Apparently, his character was originally supposed to be Kylo Ni, but the flashbacks were deemed to be too silly.
The assumption is that Episode 8 is going to be half flashbacks to Luke's ill fated Jedi Academy. During which we would see the Knights of Ren attacking the school.
I wonder if Luke lost it and cut down all the other Knights of Ren but couldn't bring himself to kill his nephew, and that's part of the reason he went into exile. He gave into the dark side killing all those emo idiots.
