The show hinted that he and Levar were kidnapped by pirates in an easter egg. Also Joel joked on an episode of Harmontown that Levar killed and ate Troy while lost at sea.
They've referenced Troy being lost at sea twice but they haven't really had emotional fallout from it, so I see them as kind of throwaway jokes that they can reverse the first time Donald Glover says yes to them.
Plus they like to do that every time a character leaves the show. Like, the exact same way they said that Prof. Slater mysteriously disappeared and has not been seen since. I'm surprised Vaughn and Rich never met terrible fates.

Wow, this episode is a trainwreck. Season 4 level bad. First they have characters all acting like assholes in a way uncharacteristic of them, then they go to incest? They also didn't do anything interesting with the pseudo-doc format. Did they use it just because it's something that worked for them in previous seasons?
The whole 'Characters act completely without self awareness for an episode, then are made to feel bad, and try to rectify their mistake' is something that belongs in normal sitcoms, not in Community. When characters in Community act like assholes, they are completely cognizant of what they're doing.
Also I don't know why they made incest references, they didn't do anything funny with that either. It's almost like they did it just to get attention by stirring up internet controversy.

I know Season 6 hasn't been really clicking with you, but I loved tonight's episode, it was hilarious. I think the group has a perfectly reasonable explanation for acting out of character: they're all drunk
Especially when Annie and Britta lied about the time so they could hang out, they boozed it up while they were making fun of Garret.Speaking of that, that felt exactly like something that they did in the writer's room and thought it was funny enough to include in the episode, and I'm glad they did, especially hearing Elroy immitate Garret was hilarious.
The incest angle was there to provide a little conflict, and it got Chang to step up and save the day, which I loved. He acted the most like the Senor Chang of old, it was a nice touch.
Don't forget that he has monkey-rabies (Something similar?), it's hard for Chang not to be a loon.

Speaking of fake clip shows, looks like that's the route they're going with the finale...but this time they're showing clip from "Season 7." I think this is an insanely clever idea and can't wait to see what they'll come up with.
Also there's a rumor going around that Chevy Chase and or Yvette Nicole Brown will show up. No Glover though.

It would be so hilarious if Pierce just kind of walked in like nothing happened and when everyone reacted he said "Yeah, I didn't really die. I was messing with you guys."

With all of the complaints about how Seasons 4-6 have felt "off," I just found a lengthy video from a fan describing how he felt that Season 3 (usually very well regarded by the fans) was a betrayal of the realism and the way that the characters were grounded in Seasons 1 & 2.

Season 1-3, business school student who thinks he's too good for his job at DM. Basically normal young guy with a lack of real world common sense.
Season 4, DM executive and drug addict trying to 'Live the high life' in NYC and force his brilliant youthful ideas on the company.
Season 5, Incompetent defeated vindictive guy ready to settle for whatever he can get.
Season 6+, Mamma's boy hipster drama queen.
You can do a similar thing with Chang.
1. Moderately but aggressively unbalanced and insecure Spanish teacher.
2. Needy psychopath desperate to join the group.
3. Needy psychopath enabled by the Dean.
4. Amnesia faking guy with no clear goal.
5+. Sporadically odd occasionally helpful guy with mild schizophrenic tendencies.
6. Actor who references his prior insanity.
I would agree season 3 did betray the realism of the first two seasons, but it was worth it because the least realistic episodes tended to be the best written and coolest. I mean, how freaking awesome was John Goodman as the head of the School of Air Conditioning Repair? An 8 bit video game made by a racist? Brilliant, incredibly cool episodes.
Season 4 had a different set of writers who were used to writing normal network sitcoms and it showed. Season 5 I really enjoyed, it seemed like a sequel to seasons 2-3 and made great use of Professors Duncan and Hickey. Not quite as good but felt the same with only a few misfires.
Season 6 seems like it's trying to be a sequel to season 1 and have Frankie drag the school kicking and screaming back to the real world. That's a good thing, but most of the time they haven't been able to tap into the emotional themes they tapped into in season 1. And characters have been suffering from Sitcom Syndrome more than usual and not in the usual ironic manner.
Sitcom Syndrome, a mental illness common among network TV characters characterized by the tendency to act destructively without self awareness and ruin important things for other people, then feel really bad about it and try to rectify your mistake, usually followed by lesson amnesia.
Sitcom Syndrome is the reason I have trouble getting into Modern Family and Blackish, which are otherwise rather likable and funny.

I thought that was a great finale, and I loved the part at the end where the family figures out they don't really exist. "Viewership may be measured by an outdated system based on what people wrote in journals about what they watched, then show may be moved to the internet where it turned out tens of millions of people were watching the whole time."
I like that they allowed the characters to move on with their lives and gave Annie and Abed futures but it's kind of bummer that Jeff seems resigned to never practicing law again.
I hope we do see more of Community in some form in the future.

I'm an episode behind all of you. I just watched the Garrett/Stacy Wedding episode and thought it was brilliant. The incest plot was not something you'd find on the show, I think, during the NBC run, but worked perfectly here and I especially loved the ultimate resolution (muchos gracias, El Tigre!) and how the show utilized Chang.
Here's hoping Yahoo will bring us a season 7.

I really hope not. I know you're behind, but this finale was the perfect ending.
I think so. I mean there are a few lingering questions (one of which would make a good movie plot). But, it was enough closure for me if we don't. Still, I'd love to see the movie.
If they did season 7 I wouldn't mind if they started an entirely new study group we've never met before. As much as I love these characters I think they had a great ending. They could be a Fundamentals of Law study group.
