I'm not as fond of these episodes where the clones are all off in their own separate stories, or just interacting via phone or Skype, as I am of the ones where they interact "face to face." Maslany has startlingly good chemistry with herself. (Or with Kathryn Alexandre, I guess, since that's who she's usually playing off.) Of course, they have to limit the clone meetings so they don't blow their VFX budget, but it's just not as much fun when they aren't together.
But we did get the second onscreen appearance of Alexandre as the Prolethean midwife, plus a nice little behind-the-scenes featurette focusing on her. I was glad to see that, because I think she's very attractive, and it's annoying that of the two actresses, the one I find prettier is also the one whose face I usually don't get to see.
Okay, of all this show's surprise twists, the Castors being the Ledas' biological brothers is probably the least surprising. As soon as Cosima started looking at the DNA results and going "hm," I knew what it was she'd found. Not only are Maslany and Millen similar enough types to be believable as siblings, but this has become increasingly a show about family. In season 1, the clones were "genetic identicals," but by season 2, they were thinking of each other as sisters. So it follows that the boy clones would be their brothers. (Although it's mythologically problematical, because Leda was Castor's mother. Castor's twin sister was Clytemnestra. Although it's pretty obvious why they didn't use that name for the girl clones.)
To paraphrase a Theodore Sturgeon story title, "If All Men Were Brothers, Would You Let One Marry Your Sister's Baby's Surrogate Mother?" Hold on, let's see... that would mean that Mark would be both the baby's father by marriage and his biological uncle. Good grief, this baby's lineage is already incestuous enough, with Gracie effectively being her own baby's sister. That would mean the baby is its own cousin and its own nephew/niece. Holy identity crisis, Batman!
So did evil Prolethean lady actually kill Mark? That was a legitimate surprise. I thought sure that Sarah would save him. I have a hard time believing they'd kill him off, though. They've done so much to build his character. Why show him burning off the tattoo last week, or have Sarah confront him about their family bond, if it wasn't going to have any payoff? So I'm inclined to think he's somehow survived.
