IDW Star Trek Ongoing...

The bulk of STID, judging from the 2259.55 stardate, took place from late February to early March 2259. The closing scene, according to Kirk's speech, took place a year later, in early 2260. That was when the ship was recommissioned; perhaps there were several more months between the recommissioning and the start of the 5YM proper?

Of course, the comics' timing is already messed up because the "one year ago" line was added in post-production and the "After Darkness" comic wasn't aware of it. Now they seem to have overcorrected in the other direction.

^Since no preview has come out on startrek.com today (Tuesday), I would guess that issue #37 will come out Wednesday of next week. IDW is lazy or something about advertising release dates.

Marvel does this as well, and a trick I've learned is that if you Google, for example, "Star Trek Ongoing 37 previewsworld.com", you can normally find the dedicated Previews page for that issue and it'll have the release date.

#37 is out 9/24
#38: 10/8
#39: 11/5

That is a helpful tip, thank you.

I was just notified yesterday, by my online comic store, that #37 is available for purchase....so I went ahead and bought #36 and 37. And, I'm awaiting to see how the story turns out...

I'm confused. So in the time that the Enterprise disappeared because of Q, the Dominion infiltrated the Romulan Star Empire and detonated red matter on Romulus. I thought Section 31 got ahold of all the remaining red matter?

And so the alternate reality Defiant was built prior the fall of Earth sometime prior to 2332? Or was it a Starfleet project the Klingons completed and gave to Benjamin Sisko?

And remember, Q is involved. So none of this can be taken on face value, based on that alone. For all we know, Q is faking this whole thing.

Where did you get the year 2332 from?

Maybe this will clear up some confusion:
A big deal is made in the issue about the Enterprise mysteriously vanishing 100 years prior to Sisko's time. Presumably Q never returns the Enterprise and her crew back to their original time frame in this timeline and we're seeing the future results of that disappearance.

The Dominion incursion is all wonky in this version of events and the red matter used in the story seems to come from the Romulans developing it themselves in the 24th century -- not the remaining red matter from Spock or Nero's supply.

Total speculation: the story seems to be leading to a complete erasure of this timeline once the Enterprise is returned home by Q and the ship is no longer a "historical mystery."

Didn't Kirk leave what was left of the Red Matter with the Romulans earlier in the comic series?

Look at the comic.

It pleases me to see the B'rel/K'vort design and not the ugly Narada-enhanced D7 design in the panel about Wolf 359. And is it just me, or is the Klingon Gowron and the Romulan Donatra?

Didn't Kirk leave what was left of the Red Matter with the Romulans earlier in the comic series?
That was in #8 "Vulcan's Vengeance, Part 2". In #28 "The Khitomer Conflict, Part 4", Section 31 double-crossed the Romulans, interrupting the Romulan attempt to destroy Qo'noS by stealing the red matter and remotely self-destructing the upgraded Romulan warbirds. The head of Section 31 then explains to Kirk that because both the Romulan and Klingon ships of the line are in ruins and both empires know that Section 31 has red matter at their disposal, Earth and the Federation are in great safety.

Wouldn't the Dominion conquer the Alpha And Beta Quadrant due to sheer numbers?

Curious to how the Federation leadership of the Ongoing verse will react to what Kirk and company tell them.

*shrug* I guess for the sake of the plot the Enterprise arrives in the 24th century just in time to help prevent the imminent conquest of local space by the Dominion. After all in this timeline, the Dominion conquered the Cardassians, not the Cardassians negotiated their way in.

There's no Federation anymore because the Klingon Empire conquered the Federation. Benjamin Sisko and Kira Nerys are the leaders of the "Free Federation Resistance". Though apparently Earth's High Chancellor Worf is amenable to the Federation Resistance.
