You're least favorite Trek book

"Rising Son" by S.D. Perry. I'm forcing myself to re-read it now as I go back through the re-launch from the beginning. A whole book about Jake Sisko* and a bunch of characters that nobody has ever heard of before . . . kill me now.

Funny because I loved Rising Son. The crew of the ship was interesting and I LOVED that the book went out of it way to include first season DS9 Gamma Quadrant races. The stuff from early DS9 got kind of lost in the Dominion shuffle so it was good to see it here.

Edit: Heh I see after reading subsequent posts I see I am not alone in my enjoyment of the book.

Hmmm . . . seems I'm in the minority on this one.

I found the set up from the end of Mission: Gamma to be unnecessary, since it precluded ANY chance of him finding Sisko, which was what he was supposed to be doing in the first place.

I liked some of the crew, but there were just too many of them to keep straight. A lot of time, he'll mention one of them, and I'll have to stop and think where I've heard of them before.

Dog people? Really?

The part where they find New Bajor was nice, though.

I don't know, it was well written, but it's just not my cup of tea.

Well to me .....

Crucible:Kirk was the biggest load of tripe i have ever read.

After reading Crucible:McCoy ( one of the best ST books, INHO)
and Crucible:Spock ( ho-hum) ....Kirk is just a horrible disappointment.

No plot to speak of, just a convoluted jumble of words that came up
to absolutely nothing. A waste of trees.

Thats my 2c worth.

No, his interpretation of the prophecy was coloured by his wanting to find his father. The "herald" he was going to find was Kai Opaka, because her return brought the Eav'oq back into the fold, and we'll probably see the Cardassians (Hebitians/Oralius) as well, and all three will have to join together to fight the Ascendants.

I was slightly let down by Crucible: Kirk as well, but I would not say it was a waste of trees. Just not as good as the first two, mostly because it did not follow the same thematic pattern, if I recall correctly. It was more of an adventure story than a character study.
