Which made the whole episode pointless. B'Elanna did him a considerable disservice, though in part he did it to himself.

Who the heck thinks that? Season 3 was when the show shed the things from the early seasons that weren't working (like the Kazon, and the Neelix/Kes romance), and started to find its footing, before it finally found itself in Season 4.
