Your opinions on "New Voyages?"

Jaw-dopping sets and remarkable special effects. The scripts and editing need serious tightening and, despite their obvious love for the original, these guys shoot themselves in the foot by trying to act. "DeSalle" is the only one with any real acting talent.

At first I was like, "wow", the recreations of the sets alone carried me through 2 episodes. But after that, the "wow" factor had wore off and my attention depended on the acting and story. Even with stunt casting and trek alumni penning the scripts these guys just aren't engaging and charismatic enough to carry a show. Hate to say it, but with the novelty of the gorgeous set recreations wearing off, I'm really not sure if I'll be on board for future webisodes.

Well, of course, the main reason for fans making ST films is so they can be in them. That the producers happen to share them online - and that other fans offer them positive feedback - are bonuses.

I have watched the episodes, and was not too impressed...the acting just gets so in the way. I do, however, greatly admire their effort to do so much work for no money.

Its not bad but I hope they will stop making 190.000 ton ships behave like they're remote controlled aircraft, thats the main thing thats putting me off..

So based on this thread I watched "To Serve My Days", and I'm a bit puzzled; for a production that's clearly into continuity porn, they kill of Chekov? And to make it even more confusing, he's back at the helm in the very next episode. WTF?

I never could get through the first cringeworthy episode, but I loved In Harm's Way. The Checkhov one was a huge disappointment. Killing him off was such a huge plot hole I couldn't enjoy the rest of it.

According to the folks at NewVoyages.com, this was the story writer Dorothy Fontana and actor Walter Koenig wanted to tell. I agree this was a big mistake because it reminds me that this is a FAN production and not a professional one. Still, Chekov is back in the next one, and the actor who plays him does a terrific job.

Ok yeah, I went and saw that thread. Pretty ballsy doing something like that given this fanbase, but whatever.

Yes, the guy playing Chekov was very good. The Spock actor creeps me out though, he's just so...odd looking.

Agree, actor playing Chekov good, Spock odd, & captain ok, but does a bit too many eyebrow raises. I know, he's not a pro.

They (Fontana et al) have said they didn't care about continuity, and I'm with them on that. Just tell good stories.

As I said above, I read all that already.

Great efforts by all involved-I really enjoy the shows. I took In Harms Way to work last night and didn't tell anyone it was a fan film and they didn't notice it at all.

I couldn't agree more with either of you. They aren't actors, hence the catagorization "fan film". What they are, are fans willing to spend the time, energy and money to tell a story. Take it for what's worth.
