Yellowjackets

The ending of season one definitely made it look like Lottie was going to be a villain in both timeframes, but now it's looking more likely that Other Taissa is going to be the driving force behind the turn to ritualistic cannibalism.

I think Ben revealing his sexaulity broke Misty's crush.

I'm wondering whether Javi has been with some other group, maybe there's some small native American tribe nearby? At the very least he can't have survived without access to food and shelter, so maybe there's another cabin or something? Two shelters would be an interesting way to split the group.

There aren't that many of them so the cannibalism can't become too engrained. Outside of those we know will survive this leaves only Ben, Javi, Mari (Lottie's number one fan), Akilah (also team Lottie), Crystal (the one who sings with Misty) and Gen (who I don't think has any defining character traits yet). Am I missing anyone?

So there's six people for them to conceivably murder and eat! Given what we know now it seems likely the girl at the start of season 1 was Mari, though it could have been Gen. For all we know Jackie and Mari (or Gen) might be the only ones they eat. If the moment in S1 is in their second winter maybe they get so desperate that they draw lots/vote/pick one of their number to sacrifice?

It's possible others may survive and we just haven't seen the adult versions of them yet. People could die in accidents/animal attacks and may not be eaten if they have access to other food at that moment (i.e. once summer returns and game becomes plentiful again). I won't be surprised if Ben commits suicide, and I can see him doing it in such a way that they can't eat him afterwards.

Has anyone heard any indication of how long the show will run for? It strikes me that anything beyond 3 seasons would be way too much, even a third season may be pushing it.

^The creators said they have a five season plan. Could be a bit much and there's no guarantee they'll get it, but they've got plans: https://collider.com/yellowjackets-season-5-end/

Laura Lee didn't take part in the seance, died shortly after.
Jackie didn't take part in the mushroom party, died shortly after.
Ben didn't take part in the Jackie feast...

Well, this is kind of ruined now that (Episode 5 spoilers) Crystal is dead despite munching on Jackie meat and Ben is still alive and actually looking a bit better than two episodes ago.

Episode 5 was the best of the season, I thought. Callie teaming up with Shauna and Jeff is much more fun than her rebelling against them. Flashback Misty has been a bit softer lately with her new friendship, but we got a great reminder of how unhinged she is (and a great performance from Sammi Hanratty) when she caused Crystal's death.

Walter will definitely be back. He seemed a bit too into the idea of Misty being a murderer.

So now it looks like the Antler Queen wasn't one of the yellowjackets but rather Javi's mysterious friend...

Yellowjackets has had its scary moments, but the latest episode really got me. Back in 1993, I had a neighbor who would come home from work and play What's Up by 4 Non-Blondes nearly every evening for almost two weeks, so hearing it at the start of this week's episode provoked a bad flashback for me (not a slam against Linda Perry, just my annoying neighbor). On the flipside, I did get a kick out of hearing that snippet of Danzig's Mother (the song MTV wanted to ban!) at episode's end.

Lauren Ambrose is killing it as adult Van, just as I knew she would.

I always figured the Antler Queen was going to revealed as Lottie, but now it may be a totally unknown person/thing?

Part of me was really hoping for a Misty & Walter spin-off show but I guess that's not happening now. :wah:

I thought for sure the girl Misty sort of killed was a figment of her imagination!

Randy fills the condom with hand lotion. What a moron.

How old is Shauna’s daughter? She can’t be the baby, right?

She is not the baby. The baby is, or it seems was, a boy. According to Lottie.

No Shauna was eventually rescued and after a sufficiently explainable time period, say 6 months, got together with the grieving Jeff, by way of trauma bonding, officially, and then they made a healing baby.

I'm assuming the baby she has in the wilderness is sacrificed.

I don't know, five seasons seems like a lot unless the plan is to cut down on the time spent in the wilderness flashbacks? We've just lost another character (and I'd just learned her name!) and they will run out eventually. Although I noticed a new blonde girl I hadn't seen before?

Callie trying to throw the cops off was fun, in fact that entire plan was fun (so long as you forget it's needed because Shauna stabbed a (probably) innocent man to death.

At least we're getting closer to understanding how Javi survived.

When Misty was revealing her secret I knew where this was heading, glad it wasn't an obvious murder at least!

When I knew Lottie and Van would be showing up in the present I guessed they'd be out and out villains, glad that doesn't seem to be the case (though the jury's out with Lottie)

I think Walter & Misty will be teaming up again soon.

Damn it Randy! Although props to cop guy for being super thorough!

Given the showrunners have a habit of subverting expectations I'm going to guess Shauna's baby survives but is either kidnapped by the Antler Queen or else is taken into care when Shauna is rescued. (I'm going to guess the former)

Callie is still in high school despite being played by a 28 year old actress.

Ha I didn't realise she was that old, not unusual for high school kids to be played by actors much older though.

Definitely the best episode of the season so far, loved that Natalie's plan to expose Lottie completely backfired, and am looking forward to Misty joining the cult, I foresee a lot of fun there and Lewis and Ricci work really well together.

Two weeks later, we have episode 6. I saw the twist with the baby coming, but it was still done very well and acted perfectly by everyone in the final scene. Very sad.

I'm pleased all the adults are together in Lottie's retreat at last, even though it was really contrived how quickly Shauna, Taissa and Van decided to go there and all arrived within the episode. I hope we get something more concrete now than "we brought it back with us" which has been repeated by Natalie and Lottie the last two episodes.

Jeff listening to "Fuck The Police" in the car: :bolian:

Jeff listening to fuck the police might have been the best bit.

I guess I should have twigged when Lottie was breastfeeding the baby. When Shauna was talking to the baby I had a horrible feeling she was going to say. "It's you and me against the world, Adam"

Anyway everyone was at the top of their game here, I can see why Melanie Lynskey was lauding Sophie Nélisse all over social media!

I do like the way that Callie has gone from annoying to bad ass!

So, the overhead shot of the wellness centre was interesting!

Nice to see the gang back together.

So that whole vision where she was having trouble feeding him and eventually she could do it.. why did she have that vision.

Denial.

Or, it saved her life (or both).

And yeah, when Lottie was "feeding" the boy I knew it was a dream/hallucination.

Great move by Callie!

So the gang's all together at Lottie's...what could possibly go wrong?

Holy crap, the reveal at the end of the latest episode!

All of these folks are acting the shit out of these characters. I really hope they have a logical endgame in mind.

So now Shauna's the scariest in both timelines.

Christina Ricci's performance making that phonecall to Walter though, brilliant.

And very telling that the worst thing young Misty could think of to say about Ben is that he's gay. Worse, apparently, than trying to get all the teenage girls pregnant. That's the nineties for you...

I think Misty was just throwing everything she had at him to stop him jumping. I like the way that though she's done terrible things, they're making it clear that Misty probably isn't a psychopath in either timeline.

The girls randomly talking about eating Crystal was icky, and after thinking I had a handle on how many girls there are I'm back to not having a clue.

Shauna beating the shit out of Lottie was horrifying, Van's depression in the past about not knowing why she kept surviving dovetails neatly with the fact she's dying in the present, and clearly still feels she hasn't justified her survival all those years ago. There's still time, Van!

Not one but two Twin Peaks inflected scenes. Misty's wonderful song and dance routine vision, and Ben being heartbreakingly thrown out of his alt-history fantasy. I especially liked the shot of him with the antlers behind him! I wonder if there's more than one supernatural presence at work here?

The bit that shit me up however was Lottie's therapy session, that was really nicely done!
