X-Men Origins: Wolverine workprint leaked - Not April Fools

I think the reshoots might help if they suggest that Weapon XI just has Deadpool's DNA like all the other Weapon X team instead of actually being Deadpool. I didn't think it looked particularly Ryan Reynolds-ish in its final form anyway. Then add another "meet cute" with Deadpool at some point like all the other team members. We won't know how handsome Ryan Reynolds became scarred up later but we can save that for another movie.

Some conspiracy theorists believe that the leak was intentional by Fox because they knew that they had a turd on their hands no matter how many re-shoots they did. Theorists believe that when the film tanks at the BO, Fox could blame it on the leak taking the business away.

Well, that reasoning sounds far-fetched, but I wouldn't be surprised if the leak was intentional for publicity purposes - wouldn't be the first time.

There is no chance of that rumour being true. Fox would be open to multiple lawsuits from partners, from marvel, from investors.

It's complete fantasy.

they need to cut back on the crack.

That's stupid. The studio gets a bigger cut from the ticket sales of first week end or two. Movies that start strong and then fall hard hit them less then movies that tank right out of the gate. Why would they do the one thing that can risk that opening weekend gross?

Statement from 20th Century Fox regarding the online leak of X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

Last night, a stolen, incomplete and early version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was posted illegally on websites. It was without many effects and had missing scenes and temporary sound and music. We immediately contacted the appropriate legal authorities and had it removed. We forensically mark our content so we can identify sources that make it available or download it. The source of the initial leak and any subsequent postings will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law -- the courts have handed down significant criminal sentences for such acts. The FBI and MPAA are also actively investigating the crime. We are encouraged by the support of fansites condemning piracy and this illegal posting and pointing out that such theft undermines the enormous efforts of the filmmakers and actors and, above all, hurts fans of the film.

"We immediately contacted the appropriate legal authorities and had it removed." the thing is all over, and has probably been downloaded 100K+ times already by now.

But that could actually be a good thing for the movie, maybe even excellent. Lots of publicity, lots of hype, and the interest in that workprint shows that the movie will likely do very well in the cinemas.
Fox will not lose a single customer because of this, it's an unfinished workprint, noone will watch that file instead of going to the cinema but meanwhile the film gets a lot of free press...
I can see how this create hype because of an interest in seeing how the reshoots changed it. I'm tempted to download it just to do a before/after comparison, but I'm sure someone with more time on their hands will do it for me.

They don't admit it usually, but a recent example very likely is the first couple episodes of season seven of 24. Also, pre-airs of pilots of new tv-shows very often appear on p2p months before they actually air on tv.

I just went to one torrent site to take a gander at the availability... there are 99 torrents of the workprint.

Many of them with single digit seeds and leechers, but many with hundreds and thousands of seeders, and thousands up to 27,000 leechers.

This is all just one site. FOX got a problem I reckon...

As for me I just don't care enough to use the bandwidth to d/l it, I'd rather use it to watch streaming 30 rock or play WoW or something.

Personally I can never accurately judge a movie's quality based off watching it on my computer anyway. Even with a nice monitor and sound system, I still find it awfully hard to enjoy or really "get into" a movie in the same way I do at the theater or even on my big screen TV.

I would think it would be much more so with a big summer action movie like this. Even if Wolverine is no classic, it's bound to be a lot better and more entertaining on the big screen than what you guys are seeing now.

Hell, half of what makes any action or superhero movie work nowadays is the sheer size and spectacle being projected on a big ass movie screen. lol

Well they ruined Deadpool, just like I thought they would. And Scott is, once again, Logan's bitch. Just like I thought he would be. I'm done with this franchise. They've ruined the comics. They've ruined the TV shows. And they've ruined the movies. Wolverine, of course, being one of the top culprits responsible for this decent into mediocrity. I can live with two versions of The X-Men being crap, but not three. The franchise will forever be trapped in the mediocre and banal hell that it's doomed itself to being in until it gets back to it's core spirit and message. It was a good run while it lasted. The X-Men are long dead to me. Time to move on.

That's been my stance for years. I think it was at the 15th or 16th crossover event that was supposed to straighten everything out, but only everything worse, that I decided to walk away. I don't even think the people who run Marvel knows who the current team is.

All that stupid crap I could live with(and even then that's just barely) if I still liked and respected the characters. But I don't. They've been altered and changed so much for the worse over the years that they're not the fun, whimsical, and heroic characters I used to know. They're just a bunch of pretentious, self-obsessed, assholes who don't resemble the characters I used to admire and adore when I was a kid. I'd be grateful for a Crisis on Infinite Earth's-type reboot/recon. But with the idiots in charge of Marvel, we'd probably end up with something worse.

But it's not unprecedented, although more common with tv shows than movies.

Can you give me an example of where a company has deliberately leaked their show onto the internet?

Well MJM always seems to have a problem, I saw Stargate AoT, Continuum and the last 2 episodes od Atlantis a month before they came out, it got to the point to have early grading threads as the norm in the Stargate section. LOL

No amounts of reshoots is going to change this turd, trust me. Even Hancock, being a simple goofy story was more fun than this. I watched it with the mind of a comic book fan and a movie fan - both the results were the same. I am thankful for saving the 10 bucks, most comments on the torrent sites are saying the same thing.

Then again some of us hook our PC's into our HDTV's but I take your point.

And Scott is, once again, Logan's bitch.

How do you figure?

...and the other, let's just say they only focus on a less known secondary mutation than what the character is generally known for. However, if you are not a comic fan you might not even notice.

I'm guessing you're referring to Emma Frost, and the fact we only saw her "diamond skin" ability, and not her telepathy. Interesting that they gave her sister a form of telepathy though.
