X-Men Origins: Wolverine workprint leaked - Not April Fools

I caved and watched it with some friends at their house last night.

As someone who is strictly an old school comic fan (I haven't read the X-Men since the Morlocks got killed, which is what how long ago), so I had no idea who deadpool is or why Emma Frost was turning into diamonds, ect. So as someone who isn't upset about those huge changes I was very disappointed in this flick.

There are parts I did like. I really like the war montage. I liked Liev who really brought so much more to the character of sabertooth, and I do like Hugh. ut overall I thought this was a below average action film. Yes it had a few nice fights, and some nice moments, but it felt very disjointed to me, populated by characters that have no character (why put people in it if you don't serve develop them for us to give a rats ass about).

Now it isn't a total disaster (it isn't as bad as Electra or Catwomen), but it did decide it for me, I wont be seeing this in the theatre. I will (just to compare rent it on DVD). And this was the majority opinion at my friends house. Out of the 6 of us (1 still wanted to see it, 2 weren't planning on seeing it and it didn't change their minds, and 3 had planned to see it some time at the movies (none of us were planning its opening night, perhaps weekend) but now we are giving it a pass.

And really, that isn't the type of press I would want for a film.

But again, it is horrible, its just didn't connect with me. I am sure many will still be very interested in seeing it.

...and the other, let's just say they only focus on a less known secondary mutation than what the character is generally known for. However, if you are not a comic fan you might not even notice.

I'm guessing you're referring to Emma Frost, and the fact we only saw her "diamond skin" ability, and not her telepathy. Interesting that they gave her sister a form of telepathy though.

Yup, that's it.

But again, it is horrible, its just didn't connect with me. I am sure many will still be very interested in seeing it.

I take it that was a typo. I felt it was in line with the other films just on a more "Wolverine scale". Maybe it's because I expected a complete disaster from the trailer and so had no expectations. Coming at it from a purist comic POV it will certainly be a tough sell though.

While it had one or two good spots, it was mostly garbage. I turned it off half-way through and am not in the slightest bit curious what happened next.

Yeah that was a typo, it wasn't horrible. It was just below average in my opinion.

Say a C- judging a little softer then I normally would thanks to it being still unfinished).

If this was the finished film probably a D+.

Yeah I would imagine purist for the material will flip.

I will compare this to X-Men 3. I liked this marginally more. Mainly because this isn't based on anyone outstanding or landmark other piece of work. X3 was based on The Dark Phoenix saga often considered one of the 3 best X-Men stories of all time (Hell one of the best comic stories of all time). This doesn't have to aspire to those expectations. As such it less of a let down (still not good, but not a kick to the face).

X3's biggest problem were all of the competing storylines the writers decided to put into one movie, even though it was SHORTER than X2.

Here are all of the stories in X3:
-Dark Phoenix
-Legacy Virus
-Mutant Cure (I think this was seperate)
-Mutant Outcasts (ala Morlocks)

I'd say it was around X3 quality, maybe a little better, but X3 did have Kitty and while Origins has one of my favorite Marvel females appear it is only in a small role and I didn't really like what they used her for anyway.

I mean I've never been a huge fan of the secondary mutation thing anyway. But Emma is a telepath. The Diamond Mutation is not a big deal. I don't like her first appearance being JUST THAT. Meh. The ability to manipulate people through her telepathy is ingrained into the fiber of her character. So I'd be happy if this whole thing is retconned (I saw a commercial saying she was Emma Frost and just giving the character a different name and not have it be Emma.

A lot of this movie felt really tacked on and forced in. The whole Gambit thing particularly IMO and the actions of Gambit don't really make too much sense either.

I'm also someone who really disliked prequels and I cringe at a lot of stuff in prequels when a character does something (or DOESN'T) and they gave some crap reason when you know the real reason is it would make impossible events that had occured already.

I wouldn't want to miss out on any of the Brothers Strauss work in visual effects or directing. This is why Sci-Fi gets the back end of production greenlighting due to expensive work that needs box office pay off to afford quality films.

And Scott is, once again, Logan's bitch.

How do you figure?

Yeah, I don't get that one either. Their only interaction is when Logan cut open Scott's cage along with twenty other ones without ever saying a word to him or even glancing in his direction (not as a snub, he was just moving fast to free them all). How that makes him Logan's bitch is beyond me.

I guess being a teenage kid who gets captured by Sabretooth and Stryker and then leading an escape and fight against numerous guards while blindfolded makes one a "bitch."

That teenage kid used to go toe-to-toe with Magneto and The Brotherhood of (Evil) Mutants and win. The movie Cyclops is so weak, pathetic, incompetent, and inept that he couldn't tie his shoes without falling over dead. Seeing him run away in terror from Sabretooth, a guy he could incinerate in 2 seconds flat, was embarrassing but par for the course. It's like that in every X-Men movie. Scott is presented as a pretty boy, half-wit, weakling to show how awesome and cool and manly Wolverine is. They'd never present Wolverine as a psychotic, white trash, high-functioning retard who's barely smart enough to not shit himself in public. Because that view of Wolverine is far closer to reality then the former is of Cylcops. For crying out loud, ANGEL - the guy who, not even the most hardocre of old school X-Men fans like - was treated with more respect then Scott is.

My theory? Some dude who resembles Scott Summers stole Avi Arad's girlfriend. It would explain a lot.

On the main topic, this is karma of the highest order. Karma for their bullshit Watchmen suit. Karma for putting out nothing but awful and stupid movies. Karma for making crappy X-Men movies. Karma for screwing up The Fantastic Four. Karma for unleashing American Idol on us. Karma for Bill O'Reilly. And Karma for cancelling Firefly. The only thing that could make this any more satisfiying is if I could drink Rupert Murdoch's tears. Yummy, yummy tears.

From what I can read about it on the tubes, the movie doesn't sound good and I have noticed a number of scenes that just seem off. The CGI I guess is mized, some completed looking scenes some very rough, 3 mile island is used a a great example of a very rough scene.

I found X-3 to be ok, but i'm curious if I will ever see this in a movie threatre.

All things considered, i bet there was some movie exec that hoped this would happen.

I personaly did not care for this film after viewing it, this has nothing to do with the VFX (some rough as they are for obvious reasons). It just feels disjointed with alot of been here done that feel to, there was nothing o get excited about.

My take on the whole thing is that Wolverine is my favourite comic character ever. I love X-Men and X2 and feel Singer and Jackman did what for many years I thought was impossible, they made Wolverine come alive. Jackman truly was Wolverine. Despite all the Tomfuckery of Rothman, they did it. X3, not so much. Wolverine was definitely neutered. However, I looked forward to Wolverine despite the obvious bottom dollar baiting of the "X-Men Origins" tag. I was worried about the producer involvement of Jackman, because generally when actors on the cusp of stardom with a top tier character that could be a franchise are allowed to put their fingers in the pie, they tend to worry too much about the effects certain things may have on their career and therefore are unable to make the tough decisions or are not keen on showing their character, ie. themselves, in a bad light. With a character as dark as Wolverine, this could be a problem. There are exceptions. However, it worried me.

When I saw all the trailers, I groaned. It really looks horrible. Really bad. I'm worried. However, I will not download a work print and watch it. I feel for the excellence of X1 and 2, Jackman himself, at least, has earned my respect, my thanks and my dollar. I also refuse to steal off the backs of craftsman. No, no the multi-millionaires who are some of the actors and top tier talent, but the hourly waged craftsman. You see, I LOVE the movies. A lot. I'm a film buff. The movies have brought me a lot of joy in my life. I understand the craft of making a film is precise and complicated and that, despite protestations to my earlier comment, a good film can indeed be made in the editing room, whatever the script. Just ask Paul Greengrass. Wolverine, whatever the condition of the workprint, could be saved. It can be saved.

Not only that, but a film is intended to be seen in a theatre. Part of the film experience for me is lining up, sitting down and waiting with anticipation, whether it be bad or good. I love the theatre, despite moronic assholes who think it's their living room and talk like a retard, I love the theatre. I won't let those subhuman fuckwits (you know who you are, despite everyone denying it, there has to be some on this board) ruin my experience. And I look forward to Wolverine, despite my expectations of suckage. I look forward with hope. Hope that will probably be dashed, but one thing I will not do, I will not steal.

My thoughts exactly. I have nothing against those who have downloaded it (and I download free songs all the time, so I'm hardly a saint), but when it comes to movies-- particularly big summer action movies like this-- I just find that a big part of my enjoyment comes from the moviegoing experience itself.

Of course I'm also not a diehard X-Men fan like you all, so if it's at LEAST on the level of X3 (which while not as good as the first two was still entertaining), I'll probably still enjoy it.

So does this mean thumbs down on X-Men Continuations: Wolverine?

While I get the joke I find it funny that it took them 17 years to disclose his mysterious origins and the last 17 years they can't stop telling the story of his origin.

Well this all just sounds like crap. I expected crap, but I didn't expect crap of this caliber.

I'll definitely not spend seven bucks on a movie ticket for this, but I will (probably) rent it.

And then his wife cheated on him with some wisecracking dude with a lot of scars.

An even better theory. How the hell they want to make a Deadpool spinoff from this I have no idea. Why does Hollywood have to screw up everything good? I mean Deadpool's not that hard a character to get. You put Ryan Reynolds in a red ninja outfit, you let him be himself, and give him a few action scenes. It practically writes itself. How hard is that to understand? Why does that need to be improved on? Do you really need to shit on every other fan-favorite character in order to make Wolverine look good? Is he really that boring, that cliche, that one-dimensional, that played out? Well, actually, yes he is.

QFT.

:)

And I was willing to put up with Emma Frosts annoying ass because I thought it would just be a cameo. Well, it's probably a bigger part now then what I thought it would be so that's yet another reason for me to pass on this.

Anyway there is a rumor that

The Deadpool at the end is actually a clone and that the new scenes they have with Reynolds are to show that. I call shenanigans. It's probably fanboys hoping and praying for them not to screw up Deadpool. Tough luck guys, because I promise you that Baraka Jr. is Deadpool no way about it. I would hope all the bad press and fan outrage would be enough for them to change it. This is Fox though. And they're incapable of doing anything good, much less make a good movie. So I doubt it.
