Would you like looks, uniforms and such re-imagined?

The difference is the delta is a copyrighted trademark.
Ah... so only authorized companies will be allowed to produce and sell the badges... good point

Eventually, yes, but this is a new show just starting production.

Do you think that (authorized) producers of the badges might have already started producing merchandise though? Not being sarcastic, just an honest question.

By the way, is Ivanka (Trump´s daughter) wearing a Star Trek uniform?

This is very true- but couldn't they mass-produce them? Sell the "others" to fans!
The shop(s) that produce the costumes, badges, props, etc. for the actual show are different from the companies that may be licensed to mass-produce home costume versions at some point.

Of course, there will undoubtedly be some "unofficial" versions on ebay, manufactured and sold from certain locales that have, um, different considerations of trademark and copyright.

True. Should've considered that.

All that said, what do you think of the new badge? Personally, I very much like it- I think it may be my favorite yet.

I'm not trying to be a noodge, but I enjoy seeing consistency in the Star Trek universe across the various shows. I think Berman/Okuda et al., did a marvelous job of "building out" a logical universe over the many years of STNG/DS9/STVOY.and even Enterprise in the case I'm about to make. (Of course nitpickers will find things - it's a pretty big universe after all).

So, I'm curious as to what uniform insignia will be placed on the uniforms in ST Discovery? Recall that in TOS, each ship and star base had a different insignia on their breast, and internal to the insignia was a symbol indicating Command, Sciences and Engineering. The Enterprise crew of course had the familiar "A"-shaped swoosh. Capt. Ron Tracy wore a uniform showing a rectangular design for the Exeter. Commodore Matt Decker showed some sort of atom-shaped design for the Constellation. The star base personnel had different shapes as did Starfleet Command. Ostensibly the global adoption of the classic Enterprise "A"-shaped swoosh emblem was to honor the completion of the ship's 5-year deep space mission. All movies and shows since have utilized some form of this - except Enterprise, which predated TOS.

Discovery also predates TOS, but so far it appears - from even the main title block - that they'll be using the conventional "A" shaped emblem. I understand that Discovery occurs in the original timeline and not the J. J. Abrams universe, so it would appear that this is an oversight on the part of costume design. I haven't seen photos showing the front of the new Starfleet uniforms for the new series, at least the emblem. Did they get it right? I hope they did, because they're shooting footage now, and whatever they have likely won't change. Too bad CBS didn't offer up a forum site for fan comments. (Or did I miss it?)

It's just a simple retcon. The 'real' reason being the delta became the legal trademark of the franchise. Where as the other ship emblems from TOS were lost to the pop culture abyss.

Though I think it's possible we might see something like them in the form of ENT-style sleeve patches.

In TOS, all Starfleet personnel were supposed to have the arrowhead uniform. A couple different Starfleet ships using different emblems was actually an error.

The memo you refer to... it specified that personnell on ships were to wear the arrowhead, whereas ground and star base personnell were to have unique/different badges.

But then the costume designer just did his own thing.

That's the version of the story I've heard

Edit: I didn't see the link in your post

That was TNG's overly-contrived way of trying to say "see! No sexism here!"

...even though they stuck one of the main (female) cast members into a revealing catsuit ASAP.
It was a "tongue - in- cheek" comment, but in all seriousness, the basic uniform type (long or short sleeve tunic with a varying degree of collar height/pants or skirt) isn't going be all that different in the new show.

No, I know you were joking. I was just commenting on the skant itself, since you brought it up.

And what do you mean? The uniform won't be all that different from what? From TOS, TNG? I mean, that's easy enough to say by itself, since all ST uniforms have something in common. The department/branch colors, simplicity of design/wear. The only uniform that was a real departure were the 'Monster Maroons', in my opinion.

Technologically advanced warp-capable factions should look futuristic, like something out of science fiction. Otherwise, the show fails as science fiction. :)
