Would it be cool to see young versions of Scotty, Chekov and Sulu appear on Strange New Worlds?

I think it's like anything else....if they do it well and there's some story purpose and "magic" to it, then it would be great. If not, then they should just continue highlighting the already-great cast and characters they have.

Of course, execution is always everything but if they didn't even try..... Epic Fail anyway.

Let’s save *some* legacy characters out of SNW just incase they ever decide to do a TOS reboot out side of the JJ Abrahams universe one day. :bolian:

Those characters appeared in the Reboot (Kelvin Timeline movies) and Scotty had a voice cameo in the season 1 finale but should they appear on Strange New Worlds or any other prequel series?

They absolutely have the right to be there, and I look forward to people complaining about cameos from characters who created the Star Trek universe.

If it is a full, NO strings attached, like Abrams was, reboot then anything done in Prime now won't matter anyway.
They would need to hire someone like Quentin Tarantino to direct it though. He might not be available.

They will.

The universe is a big place so having new characters does nothing to take away from the old. Also, no, characters don't have rights to be anywhere.

Scotty was already in "A Quality of Mercy" - as much as we need of him, anyway.

No, they absolutely should not. I like SNW, but they really need to stop using TOS as a crutch and chart their own course.

SNW doesn't need to do a thing differently than they're doing it so far.

I'm starting to get the impression that we're gradually going to see more and more TOS characters join the cast. I wouldn't be surprised if the final episode ends with the start of Kirk's mission from "Where No Man Has Gone Before."

Who w/could direct a 100% Full on No Holds Barred Trek Reboot is a decent, if not off topic, question. That would be a Huge responsibility to pull off.

Tarantino might work for a one-and-done kind of freak-out, as it seemed for a while might happen before crashing, but surely not something intended to be the Foundation of a Saga Reboot.

I can't even see that happening as a single film. Might take 2 or 3 films for the story to settle in.

Yeah, a series would be needed to give a NuSaga Trek a good start. Perhaps something that starts in the Nu-Universe set a little before their First Contact but pushed back much later in the 21st. century. Keep the day though.

Dammit. Now you got me rambling.

They've got enough actors dressed up as "aliens." More actors behaving like people, please. They're doing well on that score so far.

I don't expect anyone on the crew to die, so this is always a weirdly hollow bench mark. "They won't die!" So? I don't watch Star Trek going "I wonder who will die?" Because, for the most part, people who die are not in the main credits. Even if Spock were Mr. Lok of Andor he still wouldn't die.

Some people seem to want every show to be Walking Dead or Game of Thrones.

I actually want to see Gary Mitchell and especially Dr Boyce more.

Yeah, though I don't want M'Benga replaced as CMO.

They will.

Please no...

The show is built around TOS and that framework comes with it's own crutch. I think they are charting as best they can, while with the painful realization that new characters are not desired as much as familiar names

Not desired as much as familiar names??? Says who?? I personally think it would have been better with no familiar names except Spock and Pike and whoever else we saw in The Menagerie.

Continually going back to the same well diminishes and waters down what we know comes after. Not to mention it becomes increasingly Convoluted. As much as I like the Actors that Play Uhura, Chapel and M'benga, Sam Kirk etc. They were obviously included to appeal to TOS fans and could have been easily replaced by new characters.

I think ST:Ent was a far better prequel in that it did it's own thing and rarely relied on Legacy Characters. Except for that Awful series finale of course....lol

Now before the few here that find no fault with the show jump down my throat. I will say again I like many things about SNW. I do feel it would have worked best as a complete reboot though.

I wish that is how they would have continued Trek back in 2009. Instead of continually going back and attaching everything to TOS. Just do a true reboot. Same premise and zero story ties to anything produced from 1965 to 2005. Start from scratch. Either that or they should have moved things forward from Tng movies onward.

I prefer Not so Strange new characters please. No more TOS reunions. A galactic fleet like Starfleet needs more alien staff and less human ones. I have the NAAAP on comms!
I love the idea but I’m horrified how TPTB would execute it - would they recreate the uniforms, the set and outer appearance of the 2264-era USS Enterprise? Probably not.

It's what is selling right now is familiarity. It's what I see asked after when new shows or seasons are announced. Familiarity is driving shoes.

How?

I do hope you are not putting me in that category because I have not watched either show, aside from one episode apiece to see if it was for me. Spoiler alert: it wasn't.

However, what I do want is consequences. I don't enjoy the "warping off to a new adventure" with no consequences to the characters. I don't like the idea that everyone is perfectly safe and will never die, no matter what. That doesn't mean I want a constant blood bath, but I also want there to be a tinge of danger and that choices mean something even if I know the main characters are not going to die. Shows like Brooklyn 99 do this perfectly well.

Please no...
Why not? TOS is fairly untapped in terms of time spent in the era so having a TOS show would be fine. It doesn't take anything away from the original and explores an era that I think allows for some fun, while being fairly familiar to a large chunk of the population, e.g. not Star Trek fans.

This is why I think the 2274-2279 5 year mission is doable. The SNW and early Discovery uniforms could easily be tweaked to be more TMP. Chapel's and Culber's white uniforms already reek of TMP aesthetic. You have more alien crew and all 9 of the original main recurring characters. You could even bring in pre-cadet Saavik at some point, considering she is a lieutenant undergoing advanced training in 2283.

Blimey if they want to go all out, they could do a whole story arc involving the resurrection of Decker and Ilia. Maybe it would be too reminiscent of Riker and Troi but the after effects of merging with V'Ger could make an interesting story.
