I think it's like anything else....if they do it well and there's some story purpose and "magic" to it, then it would be great. If not, then they should just continue highlighting the already-great cast and characters they have.
Those characters appeared in the Reboot (Kelvin Timeline movies) and Scotty had a voice cameo in the season 1 finale but should they appear on Strange New Worlds or any other prequel series?
They would need to hire someone like Quentin Tarantino to direct it though. He might not be available. If it is a full, NO strings attached, like Abrams was, reboot then anything done in Prime now won't matter anyway.
They will.Let’s save *some* legacy characters out of SNW just incase they ever decide to do a TOS reboot out side of the JJ Abrahams universe one day.![]()
The universe is a big place so having new characters does nothing to take away from the old. Also, no, characters don't have rights to be anywhere. They absolutely have the right to be there, and I look forward to people complaining about cameos from characters who created the Star Trek universe.
No, they absolutely should not. I like SNW, but they really need to stop using TOS as a crutch and chart their own course.

I don't expect anyone on the crew to die, so this is always a weirdly hollow bench mark. "They won't die!" So? I don't watch Star Trek going "I wonder who will die?" Because, for the most part, people who die are not in the main credits. Even if Spock were Mr. Lok of Andor he still wouldn't die.
I actually want to see Gary Mitchell and especially Dr Boyce more.
They will.
The show is built around TOS and that framework comes with it's own crutch. I think they are charting as best they can, while with the painful realization that new characters are not desired as much as familiar names

I love the idea but I’m horrified how TPTB would execute it - would they recreate the uniforms, the set and outer appearance of the 2264-era USS Enterprise? Probably not.I prefer Not so Strange new characters please. No more TOS reunions. A galactic fleet like Starfleet needs more alien staff and less human ones. I have the NAAAP on comms!
You say this like it’s a bad thing.I love the idea but I’m horrified how TPTB would execute it - would they recreate the uniforms, the set and outer appearance of the 2264-era USS Enterprise? Probably not.
It's what is selling right now is familiarity. It's what I see asked after when new shows or seasons are announced. Familiarity is driving shoes. Not desired as much as familiar names??? Says who?? I personally think it would have been better with no familiar names except Spock and Pike and whoever else we saw in The Menagerie.
How?Continually going back to the same well diminishes and waters down what we know comes after.
I do hope you are not putting me in that category because I have not watched either show, aside from one episode apiece to see if it was for me. Spoiler alert: it wasn't.Some people seem to want every show to be Walking Dead or Game of Thrones.
Why not? TOS is fairly untapped in terms of time spent in the era so having a TOS show would be fine. It doesn't take anything away from the original and explores an era that I think allows for some fun, while being fairly familiar to a large chunk of the population, e.g. not Star Trek fans. Please no...

This is why I think the 2274-2279 5 year mission is doable. The SNW and early Discovery uniforms could easily be tweaked to be more TMP. Chapel's and Culber's white uniforms already reek of TMP aesthetic. You have more alien crew and all 9 of the original main recurring characters. You could even bring in pre-cadet Saavik at some point, considering she is a lieutenant undergoing advanced training in 2283.I love the idea but I’m horrified how TPTB would execute it - would they recreate the uniforms, the set and outer appearance of the 2264-era USS Enterprise? Probably not.
