Would it be cool to see young versions of Scotty, Chekov and Sulu appear on Strange New Worlds?

Those characters appeared in the Reboot (Kelvin Timeline movies) and Scotty had a voice cameo in the season 1 finale but should they appear on Strange New Worlds or any other prequel series?

I'm sure that SNW would do them well, but I'm not missing them. Not a bit.

Sure, why not. That way we can hear even more complaints about how the actors don’t do justice to the characters.

    Chekov would be 14!

I'd rather see some strange new worlds than younger old characters

    Should they? No.

    Will they? Probably.

Why not? Complaining isn't fun unless I can mock someone's acting.:sigh:

I'd rather not. I didn't like seeing them in the Kelvin timeline.

I think Scotty may turn up soon though.

I was surprised that they included Uhura and especially Chapel but they have been very respectful of their history and have done a great job of fleshing out their characters.

I'm not sure I want them to bring in other high profile characters quickly. Chekov would clearly be too young and was newish to the ship in Catspaw so that's a no from me.

I can see how tempting it would be to bring in Sulu as an ensign, since he has a couple of years older and would be a physicist, so not stepping on Otegas' shoes but if they are planning to do a second post TMP 5 year mission at some point down the line I would not want them to squander a good actor now.

Scotty would be a prime candidate I suppose.

Rand was new as Kirk's yeoman but might have been on board as a specialist technician or yeoman in engineering beforehand as she is around Kirk's age. I would love to see Rand given the same treatment as the other ladies but Otegas has probably covered the crewman with quick sense of humour. If they do bring her aboard they should concentrate on her double act with Sulu.

Ugh...no. Ok, maybe Scotty. But I am happy with the main SNW crew.

My suspicion would be that if they do it, the TOS characters would be occasional characters, like Sam Kirk, possibly floating them so they could be spun off into their own show, like Pike and Spock were.

Uhura and Chapel could easily depart (back to academy/ off with Korby) if required in a new TOS show but it would be harder to see how Spock and Scotty could manage canon unless their appearances were limited in each show while both were running in tandem (easier for scotty but cue Xon?).

So, maybe in a couple of years time we might see TOS characters turning up, in prep for the next spin off. Unless SNW is on a 3 year arc like Picard.

I think the 5 year mission between TMP and TWOK is fertile ground for another TOS spin off.

What does one have to do with the other?
As for the topic. Fine if they do, Fine if they don't.

No. They just distract from the great new characters we have.

Often these things just end up being clickbait or shark jumps.

No, they absolutely should not. I like SNW, but they really need to stop using TOS as a crutch and chart their own course. More importantly, they already have a problem that too many of the main characters are never in jeopardy precisely because we know that they’ll make it to Kirk’s crew so survive to TOS. Spock, Pike, Chapel, Uhura and M’Benga are all destined to make it to TOS. Even Sam Kirk can’t die until Deneva. Of the 4 remaining characters one has died and one left the ship. Bringing on more classic characters just removes more of the tension.

NOTE: there are two uncertain characters with Kyle and Mitchell. They have the same position and names as TOS characters but it not clear if they are meant to be race and gender swapped or new.

I get the small universe complaint but TOS crew aren't just random nobody's, they are Legacy characters of the 1st order, so seeing them before TOS, even if just glimpses, does not diminish them so yes.

Besides, I doubt there will be a better show for seeing them pre-OS. I'd be a little sick once the opportunity was past but they were just swept under the carpet and ignored.

I think it's like anything else....if they do it well and there's some story purpose and "magic" to it, then it would be great. If not, then they should just continue highlighting the already-great cast and characters they have.

IMO - Sulu would be interesting as Spock mentioned in TOS S1 - Arena, that "Sulu is an experienced combat officer"; so that gives a bit of 'meat' to any earlier incidents/stpories he might be involved in WRT his earlier years in Star Fleet.
