Would it be cool to see young versions of Scotty, Chekov and Sulu appear on Strange New Worlds?

Nope, as has been said, we already have enough characters who we know will still be around in 10 years time, no threat to them has any jeopardy. I mean did anyone really think Angel was going to kill Spock on the bridge?
They shouldn't have included Uhura, Chapel, M'Benga and Sam Kirk, and they shouldn't have JTK in the next series. Much as I think the acting and writing of those characters has been perfectly fine their presence limits the dramatic potential.

No, they absolutely should not. I like SNW, but they really need to stop using TOS as a crutch and chart their own course.
The show is built around TOS and that framework comes with it's own crutch. I think they are charting as best they can, while with the painful realization that new characters are not desired as much as familiar names

I don't expect anyone on the crew to die, so this is always a weirdly hollow bench mark. "They won't die!" So? I don't watch Star Trek going "I wonder who will die?" Because, for the most part, people who die are not in the main credits. Even if Spock were Mr. Lok of Andor he still wouldn't die.

Speak for yourself.
I don't want old characters, other than Pike. I want new characters. But, it has stood out to me, speaking for myself, that when a new show is announced the questions abound with "Where's (fill in the blank) character/planet/race/ship?" That's the drumbeat I feel, here and elsewhere.

Do I want it? Nope. I have a ton of ideas for Trek shows but no one asks me about those. Just "Where's the Enterprise?"

From what I can see the majority of SNW fans don't want or need it. My worry is that advertising people will see potential publicity from revealing some legacy character every second week and the show will become nothing more than "hey look it's that guy"

Surely M'benga is the father or older brother of TOS M'benga? He has two rank stripes, doesn't that make him a commander?

I'm not sure I am down with the whole 'legacy characters can't die' issue because that only has any impact the first time you watch an episode. Character growth can be as compelling as peril. I think SNW is being mischievous giving obviously very different actors the same name as TOS characters. They might be trying to wrong-foot us.

I could certainly cope with seeing a Rand and Sulu double act for 2 out of 10 episodes. That said, they have plenty to work with as it is.

Which is their world. They are driven by numbers and trends, not in the details or the "Why" of it. Which is why I say I'm always hesitant with calling for legacy or familiar characters because it just sets the tone of revolving door of legacy over telling interesting stories. And it's a long standing fear of people changing the channel, except now it's more risky-people can unsubscribe and never come back. How much risk do you think people are willing to take when the trend is towards familiar characters like Pike, Janeway, Picard Spock, and Kirk.

I'm all for new, even if I don't like it. But, the trend is comfort food and familiarity and that is what is being rewarded. It require fans to be willing to leave comfort food behind for a while so that it isn't the only thing being rewarded if we want something new.

At least, that's my view. No doubt others will tell me I don't understand, and that fans want new things just do it "right!"

Yes, and it'll be awesome. I'm sure they'll add a TOS character every season to end with the whole gang in place.

I expect reboot Sulu to be a pilot not astrophysicist, and we'll get versions of Ben and baby Demora (from Star Trek Beyond) along too.

I'd get a kick out of Scotty showing up with Keenser Prime, whose future doesn't bode well since he wasn't in TOS.

Chekov should be about 14 at this time, but they can futz his age like in the reboot movies should they wish, or have him as a first year cadet.

McCoy is the one I'm most looking forward to. I want juicy backstory on his divorce (one pro novel and some fanfic have it ending because he cheated on his wife) and perhaps we'll finally meet his daughter too. Not sure how the McCoy/Spock banter will play in today's PC age, since most of McCoy's jabs were pretty racist. But we'll see.

We already heard Scotty's voice. My guess is that was a tease for season 2 when he becomes the new Chief Engineer. I think they will save Sulu for the next season after that and then later Bones and Chekov afterwards.

I actually want to see Gary Mitchell and especially Dr Boyce more.

They've said Scotty will not be the Chief.

Well Drats. Still he could be second in command to who they do pick. I know Scotty served aboard many different types of ships as a engineer but I can't recall if the Enterprise was the first one he was made Chief Engineer.

Would rather characters like Gary Mitchel, Boyce, Piper, Lee Kelso, a young Nogura, Others that only got a mention.
I just don't want the "TOS" to overshadow PIKE and His crew having adventures. This is his/there show. Doesn't have to be a Prequal in that it has to have Everybody show up. Only one was Spock. that was good.
