Only if Sulu is the ship's physicist.
I wouldn't mind if they retconned that out and have him be in the command division the entire time.Only if Sulu is the ship's physicist.
The show is built around TOS and that framework comes with it's own crutch. I think they are charting as best they can, while with the painful realization that new characters are not desired as much as familiar namesNo, they absolutely should not. I like SNW, but they really need to stop using TOS as a crutch and chart their own course.
I don't expect anyone on the crew to die, so this is always a weirdly hollow bench mark. "They won't die!" So? I don't watch Star Trek going "I wonder who will die?" Because, for the most part, people who die are not in the main credits. Even if Spock were Mr. Lok of Andor he still wouldn't die.I mean did anyone really think Angel was going to kill Spock on the bridge?
Obviously not but my heart was beating at what was maybe about to happen when she walked into his quarters in that body suit.. I mean did anyone really think Angel was going to kill Spock on the bridge?
Speak for yourself.with the painful realization that new characters are not desired as much as familiar names
I don't want old characters, other than Pike. I want new characters. But, it has stood out to me, speaking for myself, that when a new show is announced the questions abound with "Where's (fill in the blank) character/planet/race/ship?" That's the drumbeat I feel, here and elsewhere.Speak for yourself.
From what I can see the majority of SNW fans don't want or need it. My worry is that advertising people will see potential publicity from revealing some legacy character every second week and the show will become nothing more than "hey look it's that guy"I don't want old characters, other than Pike. Do I want it? Nope. I have a tone of ideas for Trek shows but no one asks me about those. Just "Where's the Enterprise?"
Which is their world. They are driven by numbers and trends, not in the details or the "Why" of it. Which is why I say I'm always hesitant with calling for legacy or familiar characters because it just sets the tone of revolving door of legacy over telling interesting stories. And it's a long standing fear of people changing the channel, except now it's more risky-people can unsubscribe and never come back. How much risk do you think people are willing to take when the trend is towards familiar characters like Pike, Janeway, Picard Spock, and Kirk. From what I can see the majority of SNW fans don't want or need it. Nope,Surely M'benga is the father or older brother of TOS M'benga? He has two rank stripes, doesn't that make him a commander?
They've said Scotty will not be the Chief. We already heard Scotty's voice. My guess is that was a tease for season 2 when he becomes the new Chief Engineer. I think they will save Sulu for the next season after that and then later Bones and Chekov afterwards.
I actually want to see Gary Mitchell and especially Dr Boyce more.
True! I read that last week. They've said Scotty will not be the Chief.
