Worst Star Trek Moment of All Time (for me)

Worst moment for me consist of: Destruction of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701.

While you all are attached to this ship because of its sentimentality
from the first series,
While sentimentalism is a part it, she was also a "character" in her own right. The characterization came from all of her supporting cast (ie Kirk paraphrased "she won't let me have a life," "never lose you," Scotty's love of her, etc, etc.)

I am attached to its movie incarnation because at
the age of 6, it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen in my
life.
I thought she was the most beautiful spaceship ever during the initial run of TOS. I was happy her facelift for the movies didn't make her look like Joan Rivers.

Mind you, this was before women meant anything to me. Hell, even to this day, it remains, hands down, at the top of my 'favorite ship list'.
Ditto (except I was around that age while watching TOS and having the same reaction).

The destruction of this magnificent vessel for the sake of that blight known as the Excelsior absolutely curdles my blood.
That wasn't the reason for the destruction. I started this thread saying the destruction was my worst ST moment. And I _STILL_ can't believe she only fizzled. Self-destruction was (seemingly) threatened enough times to warrant at least a super nova! But no, we get fizzle and an atmospheric entry burnup. What if it hadn't been in orbit? Half the saucer, the secondary hull and the engines were still intact for an enemy to salvage parts and technology from. Not only was the whole thing traumatic, it just didn't make sense not to actually DESTROY her, if you're going to do it.

While I greatly enjoyed TWOK and TSFS, it still irks me how they ruined what is still, IMHO, the greatest starship to ever grace my television by turning her into Daddy Daycare in space and then having Adm. Morrow take a big fat dump on her by saying that "We feel her day is over." This in turn leaves little use for it than to be the next 'Oh wow' special effects shot.
That part didn't bug me so much, in that they actively decided to make acknowledging aging a part of the story. And that would've been a natural happy ending for her, knowing the alternative was being melted down.

I loved TMP.
You mean The Changling Revisited? I disliked that the basic premise had been done in TOS (Earth probe returns home) and that the characters were devoid of personalities to a large degree, but I still went and saw it 4 or 5 times to "up the take" and hopefully cause STII to happen (it worked *grin*)

Because, for a nice change, the Enterprise gets to be the big star. I loved, repeat LOVED, the extra long, drawn out fly over scenes. I loved the drydock scene,
Ditto.

USS Valkyrie said:
They should have never destroyed her, ... Gene would have never allowed that ship to be destroyed, ever.
That's a known fact. Gene was PISSED, and memo'd everyone to death about it. But by that time, no one was listening to him.

Sure, she may be 'just the ship', but that ship made our heroes who they are. Not to mention that it was just as much a character as Kirk, Spock or McCoy. It was also MORE of a character than any of the supporting cast. *shakes head* What a damn shame.... :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:
Ditto.

Call me a little unusual, but I thought the way the Enterprise died was beautiful...
She blew and then fell like a star...
