Wonder Woman 2 Anticipation Thread

According to Deadline Hollywood, 'Wonder Woman's' release is dependent upon Christopher Nolan's 'Tenent'.
If 80% of the world's movie theaters (representing 3000 in the US and 30,000 worldwide) aren't open in the next two to three weeks then 'Tenant' will move from its July release to 'Wonder Woman's' August 17 spot and 'Wonder Woman' will be shifted to December 2020 or sometime in 2021.

hmmm, according to box office mojo, last week's #1 movie was in 21 theaters at widest release so there's still a ways to go...

December's getting pretty cluttered already, with the Top Gun sequel and Disney's Free Guy moved there, in addition to Dune having already been scheduled there and probably still keeping it.

At this rate, Gal Gadot will be going out and promoting this movie in a walker.

Dune is also Warner Bros., so I could easily see them moving it to make room for WW84, if it comes to that.

Yeah, I'm done making predictions, as throughout this crisis, I've tended to underestimate the reck- and carelessness of those in power. I'll just wait and see what happens.

Btw, it's called "Tenet".

Diana- Now we must DIIIIIIVEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

Steve- What? Why did you do that?

Diana- It's from a movie

Steve- Oh
That would be sooooo 80's!!!! Or if Brian Blessed shouted it out to her. Can't wait to see what Pattu Jenkins did...

Speaking of waiting...i wonder if they now regret waiting to release WW84?

I figured being extra deluxe-y it is going to be even more than the usual hot toys premium.

I'd have a hard time buying one of these because I'd feel so much pressure to buy just the right one because I could only justify so many even if I decided I could splurge and I'd be mad if I bought one I'd later regret. I kind of feel there's only a certain number that is kind of cool to have before it starts to feel like a toy store. I see pictures of some people with too much stuff and it looks tacky IMO.

I'm starting to think they should just push everything back to next year, or just leave them all as to be determined until they know for sure exactly when theaters will be back open and things will pick up enough to release them.
After hearing how much trouble AMC is in, I'm starting to wonder if this could end up being the end of movie theaters, at least as they are now. If the biggest chain in the country is barely holding on, I have to wonder how smaller companies are going to survive.

The irony is this could have been released in November of last year.

And looking at the 2021 schedule I'm not holding out much hope of seeing Shang-Chi, Jurassic World 3, Venom 2, The Batman or Spider-Man III making their release dates.

The smaller companies will probably be bought up. Best case scenario, they'll be bought by citizens and communities with love for the art and the theatrical experience in order to preserve it. More likely they'll be bought up for real estate and torn down to make room for parking lots.
The big companies, like AMC, should be better off. Well, the companies themselves, anyway. Their current owners might have to sell, maybe even for cheap, but whoever buys them will keep these big ass theaters around.

There's talk of studios buying theaters and running them themselves, which is a model used in Japan. I think there used to be a law prohibiting studios from owning theaters, so that the studios wouldn't be able to shut out their competition. I don't know if that's something that already happens in Japan. Seeing how American anti-trust laws have been hollowed out in recent decades, I'm afraid the aforementioned law would most likely be ignored. So, the studios are already owned by big media corporations (Universal is owned by Comcast, Warner is owned by AT&T, Paramount is Viacom, etc.), so those corporations creating new subsidiary companies to buy and run movie theaters would not be an unlikely scenario. It will force the movies of smaller studios and independent productions even more into the arms of streaming services, meaning only the big studio blockbusters making it to the big screen (plus the Oscar-bait being screened to fulfill the rules). All in all, it doesn't look good.

I don't know if this is related to the shift in Tenet and WW84 release date, but it's being reported that Godzilla and the new Matrix have both seen their release dates moved up to 2021 and 2022.
At this point I think the studios should consider a VOD/Pay per View model for the near future.
Charge $20-40, have your family, friends chip in and watch on a big screen TV.
