Will Matt Smith appear? (possible spoilers)

Will Matt Smith be in "End of Time, Part 2"?

"The End of Time"'s narrative perspective -- with Timothy Dalton in the future, narrating events that are already past -- certainly offers the possibility that in Dalton's present the Doctor is already Matt Smith, and we may be seeing a story that brings closure to the tenth Doctor, without actually having a regeneration, leaving Tennant's era open-ended (which would facilitate a potential Tennant movie), while also ushering in Smith for new adventures.

At this point, I'm rating a regeneration at only 30% odds. For that matter, I'm putting odds on Smith being non-contiguous with Tennant (in other words, there are Doctors in between Tennant and Smith, with Smith possibly being an earlier Doctor[/i]) at 10%.

Hmmm, interesting speculation in here! The idea of no regeneration leaving it open really appeals. What better way to boost a DW movie than to make it a regeneration movie! And, there were hints and rumors of DW movie.

I do think Smith will be Doc #11. They're going to want to keep that line intact for the viewers. The succession of Dr's is one of the few constants in the show!

So, no silly reboot of a successful show, probably in tact Dr lineage, but possibly no regeneration. Although, I can't reconcile that with the tattered suit. That may make that scenario impossible.

Who knows? Maybe the eleventh Doctor is the one who put an end to the Time War, and that's why the tenth Doctor is in no hurry to turn into him?

Why would they reboot anyways? If it has to do with the 13 regenerations bit, any producer in their right mind when they reach that point will bring up the Magic Rock of Omega which gives unlimited regenerations or explain that during the Time War they were given 100 extra regenerations. RTD mentioned in DWM that he considered just to get it out of the way.

Maybe The Gate gives The Doctor and The Master a new set of regenerations?

Anyway, I think we're all over-thinking RTD here. He's lied a hundred times in interviews, and it's always been a PT Barnum kind of hype. If you know it's a regeneration episode going in, there's something expected. So, he questions whether there is one, and fans instantly begin churning. Media picks up on it, and tosses it around a bit, since they know fans will buy their publication or raise their hits. And, presto, we're suddenly creating some elaborate, confusing, open-ended scenario that would never pass his 'family committee' sensibilities of spoon-feeding Common Joe and the Family of Four watching on Saturday nights?

There will be a battle, The Doctor will save the day, sacrificing himself at the same time. There will be a regeneration, Matt Smith will have some words, and roll on Season Five.

I don't expect anything more or less than that. And, I don't think it would be smart to veer away from that structure at this point in time. The last thing the BBC should want to do is to put a special "cap" on the "end of an era". They might as well ask to shed a large percentage of their viewers right there. For them, the show will feel like it is ending anyway. Enforcing this by making RTD's finale so definitive would be another nail in the coffin.

Just a theory, mind you. But, one I believe with a large amount of certainty. I actually hope he can find something to do all of this, but with as much subtle class as when Eccleston bowed out. It's going to be hard to match that final line, "You were fantastic...and you know what? So was I." :techman:

Yeah, you do a reboot for a failing franchise or series, not an extremely successful one like modern Who! I don't know how people got fixated on a reboot for Who now but I doubt it will happen.

And, the fact that this resurrection thing is being developed is already dealing with the regeneration limit. Clearly, it is fairly easy to bring a dead Time Lord back with just some potions and his DNA!

It's also possible that the Dr won't regenerate normally and that somehow the Immortality Gate helps him, or perhaps just restores him to an early restore point. Although, I think he will have all of his memories. Clearly, it is quite powerful and can transform people completely.

100% agree with everything there, especially how coold Eccleston's last line was!

Awww, hell no!

Some think we've already seen him in part one anyway.

When? If he was, it must have been very very brief, or in the background, or something!

Very much looking forward to an appearance by Smith no matter how brief.

Meanwhile regarding the End of Doomsday, and the appearance of Donna, at the time it was weird, but now I look on that moment as a moment of great joy and sadness, because it was the beginning of Donna's journey. Can only hope her journey ends in a happier place than where she was at the end of "Journeys End".

The speculation is that one of the two Time Lords without the weird head-hood-appliance on behind Timothy Dalton on the dais at the end of the episode is Matt Smith. Specifically, it's the Time Lord on Dalton's right. The Time Lord on Dalton's left is Claire Bloom.

And what's the reasoning for this speculation? Other than the typical silly fan bullshit?

Nothing wrong with the 9/10 regen scene, I'd just like something slightly different that's all.

I think a faint blue regeneration that stutters and spasms out the light could work well for a "dangerous to the doctor" sort of regeneration... Maybe his 12 going on 13th regeneration.....

Maybe The Gate gives The Doctor and The Master a new set of regenerations?
that is quite possible, its something that is going to need to be looked at, so why not do it early?

Well considering the Time Lords of Gallifrey were able to resurrect the Master and give him a new set of regenerations. I could see the 13th Doctor sacrifice himself to save the collective arses of the Time Lords and them re-warding him with 13 more regenerations....

I think we will see Matt Smith at the end of part two and he'll have a couple of lines or something and we'll jump right into episode one of series five. For some reason I keep on thinking it will be similar to Eccelston's regeneration into Tennant. That's just a personal thing though. Also David has stated in previous interview that he'd like to go out similar to the way Peter Davidson did in Caves of Androzoni. I finally watched that the other day and enjoyed it (and Peri lol) and loved the regeneration into Colin Baker, even the Sixth Doctor's cheesy line about change.

Prediction: The Doctor (Ten) will die and not regenerate. However, the DoctorDonna will regenerate into the Doctor (Eleven) played by Matt Smith.

^ That is an interesting theory! I haven't heard that yet. So the Tenth will die but thanks to the meta crisis Donna will die and regenerate into the Eleventh? This supposes that Donna survives her mind being burned up in part two. I love all the speculation.

... and then Matt Smith changes into Tennant's tattered clothes?

I just want to know how they'll explain the direction we all know the writers are taking this, that the Master turns out to be the Doctor's father, and cuts off another one of his hands.
